Washington Redskins Draft Profiles: Byron Jones, DB

Hogs Haven takes a look at NFL prospects heading into the 2015 draft.

Byron Jones

Defensive Back

Height: 6'1"

Weight: 199 lbs.

Connecticut

Strengths: Excellent in press coverage.  Impressive combination of ball skills, speed, and length.  Smooth hips and great recovery speed.  Smart player who demonstrates good instincts.  Good at anticipating routes.  Excels at getting his head around and making a play on the ball.  Reliable tackler.  Captain/leader (on the field and off).  Tough guy known for willingness to play hurt.  Well liked and respected by teammates.

Weaknesses: Not the best at changing speeds or directions quickly.  Loses footing/balance too much.  Not "twitchy."  Doesn't really play physical.  Shoulder injury ended his season after their seventh game.

Bottom Line: Before playing CB for UConn this year after they lost their two starting CB's from last year to the NFL, Jones was a two-year starter at S for the Huskies.  He's extremely versatile secondary player and athletic as all get out (set the world-record broad jump at the combine - 12'3").  He has the size to play, and be effective, at either CB or FS.  His ball skills and anticipation are impressive.  The shoulder injury is a concern.  Some question his physicality with regards to the FS position.

Projected Round: 1-2

Team He Fits Best On: Vikings, Eagles, Steelers, Packers, Patriots
