Redskins Re-Sign Restricted Free Agent OT Tom Compton

The Redskins re-sign Tom Compton for depth at the offensive tackle position

Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

Tom Compton was a 6th round pick by the Redskins in 2012 who signed a 3 year, $1.44 million contract.  He was scheduled to be an exclusive rights free agent because he was on the practice squad for the majority of his rookie season.  He will likely be given a 1 year, non-guaranteed minimum contract.  Contract details will be added once they become available.

Compton entered the starting lineup this season, after long-time starting RT Tyler Polumbus was benched for ineffective play.  Compton started the final 9 games of the season for the Redskins.  Compton was ahead of rookie Morgan Moses on the depth chart last season.  Moses injured his foot late in the season, and required surgery to repair the Lisfranc injury.  This puts Moses's availability for the start of the 2015 season in question.  Compton offers cheap, non-guaranteed depth, and potential starter if no other player is added.  The Redskins will look to bring in more options at RT, and look to improve on Compton's play from last year, but for now he serves as cheap depth.

[UPDATE: 12:12 pm, 3/3/15] Compton's deal is 1 year, $660k
