La'el Collins
Offensive Lineman
Height: 6'4"
Weight: 305 lbs.
LSU
Strengths: Unmovable. This guy is very is massive and powerful. Though he's so big, he manages to have some of the quickest feet in this draft. Don't believe me? Check out how fluid he was at the combine. He also has really long arms and that combination of physical traits makes him a superb run blocker. Collins also plays with an aggressive attitude that you love to see from your OL. Very quick at the snap and typically makes first contact, enabling him to move DL back almost immediately. Alfred Morris would love this guy. He's equally good at the second level and basically creates a wake (or running lane) wherever he goes. Thought he's definitely better in the run game than pass protection, Collins quickness and long arms enable him to find success in the passing game. Once he engages, the defender is not getting off. Has the versatility to play OT (probably RT at the NFL level) and/or G and seems willing to do either. Had a very good Senior Bowl (where he played some G quite well) and combine.
Weaknesses: Not great against speed rushers. Sometimes is too aggressive and gets beat by counter moves. Has to learn patience and allow defenders to make the first move sometimes rather than always going at the defender with full force.
Bottom Line: He's a great athlete and that athleticism may allow him to remain at OT in the NFL. He certainly has the capability to become a great G too, though. His versatility is a strength and one that would certainly be welcome on an OL such as the Redskins'. A lock to become an excellent mauling, run-blocking G, but also athletic enough to potentially become a very good OT.
His frame makes him look like a G because he's so stout. His aggression/attitude, power, and light feet are all off the charts.
Projected Round: 1
Team He Fits Best On: Rams, Vikings, Browns, Saints, Dolphins, Chiefs, Lions, Panthers, Colts
