2015 Combine Results: Defensive Line Measurements

The Redskins have not used a high draft pick on the defensive line since selecting Jarvis Jenkins in the 2nd round in the 2011 draft.

The Redskins have restocked their defensive line through free agency and trades for years, and the result has been a slew of aging, and overpriced players who haven't given the team enough production to justify their salaries. Stephen Bowen, Barry Cofield, and Jason Hatcher count ~$21 million against the cap this season, started a combine 19 games last year, and will be a combined 95 years old when the 2015 season starts.  It's likely that Bowen and/or Cofield will be released for cap relief, but the team needs an infusion of young, cheap talent on the line.

Chris Neild, and Jarvis Jenkins are free agents this season, and Jenkins could be brought back if the contract is right. Frank Kearse was a cheap lineman who was able to get 3.5 sacks last season.  Kedric Golston is one of the longest tenured Redskins, and has one year left on his deal, but releasing him saves over $1 million in cap space. Chris Baker was re-signed last season, and is the only young(27) defensive lineman who is guaranteed to be back.  There is a lot of DL talent in this year's draft, will the Redskins finally use a high pick here, or will they try to find some late round, diamond in the rough type players?

This list also includes several of the top prospects for 3-4 OLB this year including Shane Ray, Dante Fowler, Jr., and Randy Gregory.  If the Redskins move on from Brian Orakpo, the position could be addressed early.  Trent Murphy took over at ROLB last season, after Orakpo tore his pec again, but there are questions about his ability to consistently get pressure on the QB.  Murphy was better than expected against the run, but with a new GM, and Defensive Coordinator, it wouldn't be shocking if the first pick is used for a pass rusher.

Here is the full list of the DLs that were weighed and measured at the Combine, and you can see the full list of Combine measurements here. The table is sortable, just click the headers in each column.
