The Redskins have added another position coach to Joe Barry's defensive staff with the hiring of Robb Akey. Akey will replace Jacob Burney who was released days after the hiring of Barry became official. He spent last season with the Minnesota Vikings as an assistant defensive line coach. All of his prior coaching experience came at the college level with Weber State, Northern Arizona, Washington State, and Idaho.
This morning, John Keim reported that it is likely the Redskins would fill the DL coaching position soon, and that the vacant OLB might not be filled. Instead DC Joe Barry, who was coaching linebackers with the San Diego Chargers for the last few years, would be coaching all LBs along with Kirk Olivadotti. Last season Olivadotti was hired to coach the inside linebackers while Brian Baker was hired to coach the outside linebackers. Baker's teaching was well received by Trent Murphy and Ryan Kerrigan who had the best year of his career. Olivadotti was the only defensive coach retained by Barry, and now he will be working closely with him this year.

Was told the dl hire will be coming soon. Did not specify hours or a couple days. As for olb: likely Olivadotti/Barry will handle all lbs

I had heard one name for olb in beginning. But with Barry having ton of experience coaching lb's, can split with Olivadotti

Northern Arizona Connection!
New Redskins DC Joe Barry was on Akey's staff when he was the DC at Northern Arizona from 1996-98. Coaching ties run deep.
