It's Super Bowl Sunday so it is time to maybe make a friendly wager or two. Here are some of the fun Prop Bets from The Bovada Sports Book to maybe put a little action on today. Check out the SBNation Primer for more information!
Super Bowl XLIX MVP - Odds to Win
Tom Brady
2/1
Russell Wilson
7/2
Marshawn Lynch
5/1
Rob Gronkowski
10/1
LeGarrette Blount
12/1
Julian Edelman
16/1
Kam Chancellor
16/1
Richard Sherman
25/1
Darrelle Revis
33/1
Doug Baldwin
33/1
Earl Thomas
40/1
Bobby Wagner
50/1
Brandon LaFell
50/1
Danny Amendola
50/1
My Advice: The list goes a lot further, but I'm putting my money on Lynch. Quarterbacks do typically win the award, but this doesn't look like a typical Super Bowl. Lynch gives a solid 5-to-1 odds, and at the same time is a star player who get's high usage.
Player to score the first TD in the game?
Marshawn Lynch (SEA) RB
11/2
Rob Gronkowski (NE) TE
13/2
LeGarrette Blount (NE) RB
7/1
Julian Edelman (NE) WR
10/1
Russell Wilson (SEA) QB
12/1
Brandon LaFell (NE) WR
14/1
Luke Willson (SEA) TE
14/1
Doug Baldwin (SEA) WR
16/1
Jermaine Kearse (SEA) WR
16/1
Shane Vereen (NE) RB
18/1
Danny Amendola (NE) WR
20/1
Timothy Wright (NE) TE
20/1
Tom Brady (NE) QB
25/1
*Note this is rushing, receiving, returns or defense, passing doesn't count.
My Advice: This is a tough one, though I think Lynch will have a big game you are getting just 5.5-to-1 odds here. I really like Russell Wilson at 12-to-1, but I think I would end up going with Vereen at 18-to-1. It's a risky bet, but the payoff is nice. I obviously wouldn't put much on this one.
(NE @ SEA) - First Passing Attempt Result - Russell Wilson (SEA)
Complete
-180
Incomplete
+140
Interception
+1000
My advice: (note Tom Brady has a similar bet as well) I do this bet for both quarterbacks and approach it the same way. I put $5 on each QB to throw an interception on their first pass (which would pay off $5000 if it happens). Sure it is not likely to happen, but it's a small wager with a huge return. To cover my bets I would put a larger wager (say $25-50) on a completed pass. Sure it doesn't pay back as much, but it would cover your INT bet if the ball is completed. You lose everything if it if incomplete, but expect both QB's to try to start off with safe passes.
(NE @ SEA) - Total Rushing Attempts in the game - Marshawn Lynch (SEA)
Over
20½
(-135)o
(+105)u
My Advice: Take the over here. It's a little risky because Lynch only had 21 or more rushing attempts 8 times this year (including playoffs), but for Seattle to win they have to feature him and unless the Patriots are blowing out the Seahawks or vice versa I don't see them not giving Lynch 21 carries.
Here are some fun Prop Bets:
SPECIAL (NE vs SEA) - How long will it take Idina Menzel to sing the US National Anthem?
Over/Under 2 minutes 1 second
My Advice: Always a tough one, but I will say over but my confidence level is very low.
SPECIAL (NE vs SEA) - Will Idina Menzel forget or omit at least 1 word of the official US National Anthem?
Yes +400 (4/1)
No -600 (1/6)
My Advice: Though you don't get a lot of return, I think it is a pretty safe bet to say no here.
SPECIAL (NE vs SEA) - How many times will "Deflated Balls" be referred to during the game?
Over/Under 2½
My Advice: Take the over, I know the NFL will probably try get the broadcast not to focus on it, but I can't see them not mentioning it a couple of times.
SPECIAL (NE vs SEA) - Will Marshawn Lynch grab his crotch after scoring a TD in the game?
Yes +400 (4/1)
No -600 (1/6)
My Advice: Go with Yes, Lynch doesn't conform and if he gets into the end zone he will once again show his displeasure for the NFL/media and well fans as well. Also you get positive odds here so if you lay just a $25 bet, you get $100 profit.
SPECIAL (NE vs SEA) - Which Coach will be shown first on TV after Kickoff?
Pete Carroll
Bill Belichick
My Advice: Tough to bet against Belicheck here, both coaches are chasing milestones and both could be shown even if their team doesn't get the ball first given their defensive backgrounds. I think Belicheck gets the nod given the controversy surrounding him and the whole press conference thing.
SPECIAL (NE vs SEA) - Which Color will Bill Belichick's hoodie be?
Grey 1/2
Blue 7/4
Red 7/1
My Advice: Roll with Red, Blue is a Seahawk color as well so I don't see that. Grey is the most popular, but has the worst odds.
SPECIAL (NE vs SEA) - Will Bill Belichick smile during the game on camera?
Yes +150 (3/2)
No -200 (1/2)
My Advice: I'm rolling with Yes, it is positive odds and you know if Belicheck is winning or one of their trick plays go well he's going to be smiling with everything that is going on.
SPECIAL (NE vs SEA) - How many times will Katy Perry be mentioned in the 1st Half?
Over/Under 1½
My Advice: Take the over you got to figure they will promo the halftime show a couple times and Katy Perry is a pretty popular name that she will get a couple extra mentions.
SPECIAL (NE vs SEA) - Which song will Katy Perry perform first at Halftime?
Firework 3/2
Roar 3/2
This Is How We Do 5/1
Dark Horse 12/1
E.T. 12/1
Wide Awake 12/1
Waking Up In Vegas 20/1
My advice: Good luck here because I have no clue, but I would probably roll with Roar.
SPECIAL (NE vs SEA) - What will Katy Perry be wearing when she begins the Halftime show?
Skirt or Dress 4/5
Pants (below knees) 2/1
Shorts (above knees) 2/1
My advice: Go with the favorite here, it's not like any of the other options are great odds so Skirt/Dress is the way to go.
SPECIAL (NE vs SEA) - Who will be shown more on TV during the game?
Robert Kraft -200 (1/2)
Paul Allen +150 (3/2)
My advice: Easy money here, you don't get positive odds, but even before Deflategate Kraft was more likely to be shown, now it is all but guaranteed.
SPECIAL (NE vs SEA) - Will it be mentioned that Pete Carroll was the last head coach of the Patriots?
Yes +110 (11/10)
No -150 (2/3)
My advice: Take Yes, this seems like easy money. Not only do announcers love making this connection, but you get positive odds.
SPECIAL (NE vs SEA) - What will the Nielsen Rating of the game be?
Over/Under 47½
My Advice: Take the under! While I think it will set overall attendance records, only one SB has been over 47% and that was 3 years ago (though Pats were part of that SB). It will probably be 45-46% again.
SPECIAL (NE vs SEA) - Which region will have the higher Nielsen Rating?
Boston +110 (11/10)
Seattle -150 (2/3)
My Advice: Take Boston, I'm shocked that is getting positive odds. It's a bigger market which I guess the thought is they might not get as large of a percentage, but Boston fans are die hard sports fans and it's further to Arizona so the expectation is there will be fewer Pats fans at the SB.
SPECIAL (NE vs SEA) - How many viewers will the game have?
Over/Under 113 Million
My Advice: I'm going over, last year was 111.5 million and this year features a team from a bigger market (Boston vs Denver) as well as the general interest surrounding Lynch and Deflategate.
SPECIAL (NE vs SEA) - Who will the Super Bowl MVP mention first in his interview?
Teammates 3/2
God 5/1
Fans/City 15/2
Coach 12/1
Family 12/1
Owner 12/1
Does not mention any of the above 2/1
My Advice: Tough to pass up teammates, but God I think is the best option here.
SPECIAL (NE vs SEA) - What Color will the Gatorade (or liquid) be that is dumped on the Head Coach of the Winning Super Bowl Team?
Orange 3/2
Yellow 5/2
Clear/Water 3/1
Red 15/2
Blue 15/2
Green 10/1
My Advice: Go with Blue, better odds and both teams have blue as part of their color scheme.
SPECIAL (NE vs SEA) - What will be higher?
Russell Wilson Passing Yards -15½
US National Average Gas Price (in cents) on Monday, February 2nd +15½
My Advice: Roll with the passing yards here.
