Welcome, everyone, to Week 14 of the 2015 Hump Day NFL Pick'em!
We are back and excited to continue our work with the good folks at NRG, who provided the excellent prizes last year and will continue to do so this season!
Another national television game equated to another loss for the good guys. This time, it was a loss to the hated and terrible Dallas Cowboys and some guy named Lucky Whitehead. It turned out that the streak of not winning back-to-back games this season was stronger than the home field winning streak the Redskins had put together. Despite the sadness of the game, Washington is still in first place in the division AND in control of their own destiny. We here at the Hump Day offices still believe...
In regards to our picks, the Hump Day staff and I no longer believe, as we achieved another losing week, going 3-7. Just for kicks, in Week 14 we are going with the pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey approach to choosing games, as analyzing and breaking down each game scientifically has proven to be a losing endeavor.
As for our Week 13 prize, the randomly selected contestants were gmoney2577 and johnlow71. After going head-to-head, the winner was:
Gmoney2577 - with a record of 6-4! Congrats to them, and we hope they enjoy their Alfred Morris signed photo!!
Now we move on to Week 14.
As many of you have noticed, we have moved our radio show The District to Tuesday nights. Please be sure to check out that fine radio program live on WBAD from 7pm - 8pm EST and afterwards as a podcast on ESPN980.com. Due to the changes to the The District's schedule, we have had some rule changes to our contest. Please read below:
This is a weekly contest in which I will make ten game picks each Wednesday and invite you, the loyal Hogs Haven readers, to make your own picks in the comments section.
I will still make my picks each week based on the early lines set in Las Vegas, but instead of picking a winner for every game, I will choose ten games that I feel are the most significant. The games chosen will always include the nationally televised games, the Redskins games (of course), and then whatever other games I find interesting. This change is not purely due to my laziness, but laziness did play a large role.
I am not capping the amount of entrants this year, so everyone who comments with their picks after the post goes up (using the games I chose), and enters Rafflecopter will have a chance.
******Note: Going forward, please use your Hogs Haven handle as your first name to make it easier to locate your picks in the comments section.******
Two contestants will be chosen using Rafflecopter. I will them email them following their selection.
As I mentioned above, I will incorporate the spread as determined by Las Vegas the Tuesday before the games and you can earn 1 point for each correct choice. The contestant with the best score will be the winner. Ties will be decided, as usual, by our lovely assistant, who will draw a name out of my favorite, dirty, Redskins hat.
The winner will be announced on the next week's episode of the District, as well as on that week's Hump Day Pick'em, and earn a fabulous prize, courtesy of NRG, that will then be mailed to them. Each week the prize will change, and every week a prize will be given out.
And since this question has come up a lot, I will also point out there is NO limit to the amount of times you can win!
Simple right?!?!
Here are my 10 picks for this week:
Minnesota Vikings (+7.5) at Arizona Cardinals: The Vikings aren't as bad as they looked last week, so I'm picking them to cover. Which, of course, means they'll lose in a landslide. Pick: Vikings (+7.5)
Pittsburgh Steelers (+3) at Cincinnati Bengals: I actually have confidence in the Bengals this season. This is a strange, yet appealing sensation and one that I imagine probably equates to the first time someone decided to try dipping a French fry into a milkshake. Pick: Bengals (-3)
Buffalo Bills (-1) at Philadelphia Eagles: Somehow, the Eagles went into New England and beat the Patriots last Sunday. In light of recent events and the craziness of this season, I have coined the phrase "Anything can happen on a football field on Sunday." Feel free to use it, but be sure to give me credit. Pick: Bills (-1)
Atlanta Falcons (+7.5) at Carolina Panthers: Karma has walloped Atlanta since their overtime win against the Redskins back in Week 5, during which time they have lost six of the last seven games. This has led me to coin another phrase: "Karma is a tough mother." I'm still working on it, but feel free to use it as is, with the same rules applicable that were listed above. Pick: Panthers (-7.5)
Washington Redskins (+3) at Chicago Bears: Having won a total of zero games on the road, the Redskins are hopeful to buck that trend this week in Chicago. No one is more confident in the Redskins' chances of doing so than Bears fans. Pick: Redskins (+3)
New Orleans Saints (+3.5) at Tampa Bay Buccaneers: The Buccaneers, who currently sit at 6-6, are very much in the wild card hunt. They haven't enjoyed this much success since quarterback Brad Johnson was there, making the Redskins look bad for letting him go. Like they say, Karma is a tough mother. Pick: Saints (+3.5)
Oakland Raiders (+7.5) at Denver Broncos: Denver can secure a playoff spot with a win, and either a Steelers' or Jets' loss. On the other hand, they can secure an embarrassing loss by scoring less than the Raiders. Pick: Raiders (+7.5)
Dallas Cowboys (+7) at Green Bay Packers: Memo to the Packers: You can't stop Lucky Whitehead, you can only hope to contain him. Pick: Packers (-7)
Seattle Seahawks (-9) at Baltimore Ravens: If you scan the Ravens roster, you'll see talent that reminds you of the glory days of NFL Europe. Pick: Seahawks (-9)
New York Giants (-1.5) at Miami Dolphins: If the season ended right now, neither of these teams would be in the playoffs, and worse yet, the NFL would lose out on four weeks of revenue. Pick: Dolphins (+1.5)
So there are my Week 14 picks. The winner this week will have this fabulous prize to look forward to, courtesy of NRG:
Two tickets to the Redskins-Bills game on December 20th!!!!!
That's right - you and your best friend/co-worker/occasional acquaintance will get to witness the last 2015 regular season home game in person!
I will email this week's two contestants, as chosen by Rafflecopter, tomorrow night, and the winner will be announced next Wednesday on the next Hump Day post.
Good luck!!!!
