HH's Hump Day NFL Pick'em - Week 16

New, comments

Guess what day it is??? Mike Harar is back with Year 3 of his weekly pick'em contest - with new and improved prizes brought to you by NRG!!

Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and welcome, everyone, to Week 16 of the 2015 Hump Day NFL Pick'em!

We are back and excited to continue our work with the good folks at NRG, who provided the excellent prizes last year and will continue to do so this season!

Happy times are here for Redskins fans around the world, as our team broke the mold last week and won their SECOND game in a row!  It has now left the Burgundy and Gold with one huge task remaining, and that is to beat the Philadelphia Eagles on the road and on national TV this Saturday.  It's very simple: if they get the win, they are the NFC East champions.  Needless to say, the Redskins haven't always fared well in these conditions recently, but they have spent most of the 2015 season proving people wrong.  WE STILL BELIEVE......

In regards to our picks, well, they didn't have us in a very festive mood, as we stumbled our way to a 3-6-1 record.  It'll take a lot of egg nog to get over that one.

As for our Week 15 prize, the randomly selected contestants were slim1_1 and mlmorrison.  After going head-to-head, we had a tie with both of them posting 5-4-1 records.  However, as we are driven to do by Hump Day Pick'em bylaws, our fabulous assistant drew a name out of my favorite Redskins hat, and the winner was:

mlmorrison!!!!!!!!  Congrats to him, and we hope he enjoys his signed RG3 helmet!!!!

Now we move on to Week 16.

As many of you have noticed, we have moved our radio show The District to Tuesday nights.  Please be sure to check out that fine radio program live on WBAD from 7pm - 8pm EST and afterwards as a podcast on  Due to the changes to the The District's schedule, we have had some rule changes to our contest.  Please read below:

This is a weekly contest in which I will make ten game picks each Wednesday and invite you, the loyal Hogs Haven readers, to make your own picks in the comments section.

I will still make my picks each week based on the early lines set in Las Vegas, but instead of picking a winner for every game, I will choose ten games that I feel are the most significant.  The games chosen will always include the nationally televised games, the Redskins games (of course), and then whatever other games I find interesting.   This change is not purely due to my laziness, but laziness did play a large role.

I am not capping the amount of entrants this year, so everyone who comments with their picks after the post goes up (using the games I chose), and enters Rafflecopter will have a chance.

******Note: Going forward, please use your Hogs Haven handle as your first name to make it easier to locate your picks in the comments section.******

Two contestants will be chosen using Rafflecopter.  I will them email them following their selection.

As I mentioned above, I will incorporate the spread as determined by Las Vegas the Tuesday before the games and you can earn 1 point for each correct choice. The contestant with the best score will be the winner.  Ties will be decided, as usual, by our lovely assistant, who will draw a name out of my favorite, dirty, Redskins hat.

The winner will be announced on the next week's episode of the District, as well as on that week's Hump Day Pick'em, and earn a fabulous prize, courtesy of NRG, that will then be mailed to them.  Each week the prize will change, and every week a prize will be given out.

And since this question has come up a lot, I will also point out there is NO limit to the amount of times you can win!

Simple right?!?!

Here are my 10 picks for this week:

San Diego Chargers (+6) at Oakland Raiders: One or both of these teams could be calling Los Angeles their home next year.  In a way, you have to feel bad for the cities of San Diego and Oakland, but in another way, you kind of also don't care.  Pick: Chargers (+6)

Washington Redskins (+3) at Philadelphia Eagles: If the Redskins win, they're division champs.  If they lose, it's because I'm not allowed to have nice things.  Pick: Redskins (+3)

New York Giants (+5.5) at Minnesota Vikings: The Giants are doing that horror movie bad guy thing they do every year where they just refuse to die.  Pick: Giants (+5.5)

Dallas Cowboys (+6) at Buffalo Bills: This game is now meaningless to both teams, but it's still always fun to watch the Cowboys crash and burn in a horrible montage of fire, ice, and random debris at the end of a season.  Pick: Bills (-6)

St. Louis Rams (+13.5) at Seattle Seahawks: Seattle has already secured a playoff spot. The Rams are looking to secure spots at the Sandals Resort in Cancun next month.  Pick: Rams (+13.5)

Cleveland Browns (+12.5) at Kansas City Chiefs: Somehow, the Chiefs have reeled off eight straight wins and now look like real contenders.  Some say it's because Andy Reid has an awesome mustache.  I'm on the fence on that one.  Pick: Browns (+12.5)

Indianapolis Colts (-1.5) at Miami Dolphins: Both teams will be wearing inspirational "There's Always Next Year" t-shirts under their jerseys that fans can buy online after the game.  To head off the rush, they can be pre-ordered now for only $99.95.  Pick: Dolphins (+1.5)

New England Patriots (-3) at New York Jets: The Jets are facing the possibility of having a great season and not making the playoffs.  It's just like having a terrible season, only without the fun draft pick in the spring.  Pick: Patriots (-3)

Green Bay Packers (+4.5) at Arizona Cardinals: The Cardinals as a franchise have NEVER won twelve games before.  They're what the rest of the league refers to as "new money."  Pick: Cardinals (-4.5)

Cincinnati Bengals (+3.5) at Denver Broncos: If it wasn't for those pesky Patriots, this could have been a conference championship preview.  Lousy Patriots....  Pick: Broncos (-3.5)

So there are my Week 16 picks. The winner this week will have this fabulous prize to look forward to, courtesy of NRG:

A DeSean Jackson Redskins jersey!!!!!

That's right - a #11 jersey that you can wear while pretending to score 70-yard touchdowns in your in-laws' backyard!!!

I will email this week's two contestants, as chosen by Rafflecopter, tomorrow night, and the winner will be announced next Wednesday on the next Hump Day post.

Happy Holidays and Good luck!!!!
