Welcome, everyone, to Week 13 of the 2015 Hump Day NFL Pick'em!
We are back and excited to continue our work with the good folks at NRG, who provided the excellent prizes last year and will continue to do so this season!
The Washington Redskins (yes, our Redskins) beat the Giants 20-14 last week with a tremendous performance and are now in first place in the NFC East!!! Interestingly, all anyone could talk about nationally after the game was the touchdown catch made by Odell Beckham Jr. You guys keep talking about catches. We'll talk about winning the division (BOOM).
With our picks, the Hump Day staff and I got a ho-hum (and rarely seen!) 5-5 record. None of that mattered of course, because we were riding high thinking about our Burgundy and Gold.
In regards to our to our Week 12 prize, the randomly selected contestants were Bob_Cohen and o0Sean. In a Hump Day Pick'em first, they both had identical picks and also finished with 5-5 records. After our lovely assistant picked a name out of my favorite Redskins hat, the winner was:
O0Sean! Congrats to them, and we hope they enjoy their two tickets to the Redskins-Cowboys game!!
Now we move on to Week 13.
As many of you have noticed, we have moved our radio show The District to Tuesday nights. Please be sure to check out that fine radio program live on WBAD from 7pm - 8pm EST and afterwards as a podcast on ESPN980.com. Due to the changes to the The District's schedule, we have had some rule changes to our contest. Please read below:
This is a weekly contest in which I will make ten game picks each Wednesday and invite you, the loyal Hogs Haven readers, to make your own picks in the comments section.
I will still make my picks each week based on the early lines set in Las Vegas, but instead of picking a winner for every game, I will choose ten games that I feel are the most significant. The games chosen will always include the nationally televised games, the Redskins games (of course), and then whatever other games I find interesting. This change is not purely due to my laziness, but laziness did play a large role.
I am not capping the amount of entrants this year, so everyone who comments with their picks after the post goes up (using the games I chose), and enters Rafflecopter will have a chance.
******Note: Going forward, please use your Hogs Haven handle as your first name to make it easier to locate your picks in the comments section.******
Two contestants will be chosen using Rafflecopter. I will them email them following their selection.
As I mentioned above, I will incorporate the spread as determined by Las Vegas the Tuesday before the games and you can earn 1 point for each correct choice. The contestant with the best score will be the winner. Ties will be decided, as usual, by our lovely assistant, who will draw a name out of my favorite, dirty, Redskins hat.
The winner will be announced on the next week's episode of the District, as well as on that week's Hump Day Pick'em, and earn a fabulous prize, courtesy of NRG, that will then be mailed to them. Each week the prize will change, and every week a prize will be given out.
And since this question has come up a lot, I will also point out there is NO limit to the amount of times you can win!
Simple right?!?!
Here are my 10 picks for this week:
Green Bay Packers (-3) at Detroit Lions: The Lions are playing inspired football right now and, after beating the Packers in Green Bay, they have to feel great about playing them again in Detroit. Except it's still the Lions, so.... Pick: Packers (-3)
Cincinnati Bengals (-9.5) at Cleveland Browns: I can't wait for this game to end, but mainly so I can watch more Browns' fans reaction videos. Pick: Bengals (-9.5)
Baltimore Ravens (+4) at Miami Dolphins: This matchup of two underachieving teams reminds me of the time Dan competed against Dave in those Reebok ads. Pick: Dolphins (-4)
Carolina Panthers (-7) at New Orleans Saints: The Panthers are the league's last undefeated team and can potentially win their division with a victory Sunday. The Saints have really nice uniforms. Pick: Panthers (-7)
Seattle Seahawks (PK) at Minnesota Vikings: Many "experts" are picking the Seahawks in this game. By "experts," I mean people who "played the game" or "cover the league on a daily basis." Pick: Vikings (PK)
New York Jets (-2) at New York Giants: The Jets could really do us a solid here by beating the Giants. Plus, it probably benefits them in some way, too. Pick: Jets (-2)
Kansas City Chiefs (-3) at Oakland Raiders: Both of these teams still have a legitimate shot for the playoffs, which is amazing considering one of these teams is the Raiders. Pick: Raiders (+3)
Philadelphia Eagles (+9.5) at New England Patriots: The Patriots are pretty angry after their loss to the Broncos last week. You may want to have the children in another room before you consider watching. Pick: Patriots (-9.5)
Indianapolis Colts (+6.5) at Pittsburgh Steelers: Colts starting quarterback Matt Hasselbeck is 40 years old and 4-0 as a starter this season. It just goes to show you that people who remember the Dan and Dave Reebok ads can still be a contributing non-kicker in the NFL. Pick: Colts (+6.5)
Dallas Cowboys (+4) at Washington Redskins: WE WANT DALLAS! WE WANT DALLAS! WE WANT DALLAS!! Pick: Redskins (-4)
So there are my Week 13 picks. The winner this week will have this fabulous prize to look forward to, courtesy of NRG:
An autographed Alfred Morris photograph!!!!!
That's right - a photo signed by the Redskins' leading rusher the last four seasons!
I will email this week's two contestants, as chosen by Rafflecopter, tomorrow night, and the winner will be announced next Wednesday on the next Hump Day post.
Good luck!!!!
