Happy Thanksgiving and welcome, everyone, to Week 12 of the 2015 Hump Day NFL Pick'em!
We are back and excited to continue our work with the good folks at NRG, who provided the excellent prizes last year and will continue to do so this season!
The Redskins did another 180 this past weekend and got shellacked by the Panthers. This loss, once again, proved our theory that our beloved team is cursed when it comes to playing teams that start with the letters PA. Oh, and I haven't heard too many people talk about this, but our statisticians went through the numbers and, it turns out, the Redskins are terrible on the road this season. In any event, Washington is still in position at 4-6 to take first place in the NFC East with a win over the hated Giants in the (hopefully) friendly confines of FedEx Field.
With our picks, the Hump Day staff and I went 6-3-1! This our best record to date in Season 3 and can only be explained as a pre-Thanksgiving miracle.
In regards to our to our Week 11 prize, the randomly selected contestants were washingtonwin and XenoSkins87 (for the second consecutive week!). After going head to head with their picks, the winner was:
XenoSkins87, who finished with a 7-2-1 record! Congrats to them, and we hope they enjoy their Pierre Garcon signed mini-helmet!
Now we move on to Week 12.
As many of you have noticed, we have moved our radio show The District to Tuesday nights. Please be sure to check out that fine radio program live on WBAD from 7pm - 8pm EST and afterwards as a podcast on ESPN980.com. Due to the changes to the The District's schedule, we have had some rule changes to our contest. Please read below:
This is a weekly contest in which I will make ten game picks each Wednesday and invite you, the loyal Hogs Haven readers, to make your own picks in the comments section.
I will still make my picks each week based on the early lines set in Las Vegas, but instead of picking a winner for every game, I will choose ten games that I feel are the most significant. The games chosen will always include the nationally televised games, the Redskins games (of course), and then whatever other games I find interesting. This change is not purely due to my laziness, but laziness did play a large role.
I am not capping the amount of entrants this year, so everyone who comments with their picks after the post goes up (using the games I chose), and enters Rafflecopter will have a chance.
******Note: Going forward, please use your Hogs Haven handle as your first name to make it easier to locate your picks in the comments section.******
Two contestants will be chosen using Rafflecopter. I will them email them following their selection.
As I mentioned above, I will incorporate the spread as determined by Las Vegas the Tuesday before the games and you can earn 1 point for each correct choice. The contestant with the best score will be the winner. Ties will be decided, as usual, by our lovely assistant, who will draw a name out of my favorite, dirty, Redskins hat.
The winner will be announced on the next week's episode of the District, as well as on that week's Hump Day Pick'em, and earn a fabulous prize, courtesy of NRG, that will then be mailed to them. Each week the prize will change, and every week a prize will be given out.
And since this question has come up a lot, I will also point out there is NO limit to the amount of times you can win!
Simple right?!?!
Here are my 10 picks for this week:
Philadelphia Eagles (+2) at Detroit Lions: The Eagles' season continues to unravel like the sleeve of my favorite ugly Christmas sweater that I will wear to every holiday family event starting this week. Pick: Lions (-2)
Carolina Panthers (+1) at Dallas Cowboys: The Panthers are somehow underdogs in this game. I guess they didn't destroy the Redskins by enough last week. On a side note, someone needs to explain to the Cowboys what "Color Rush" means. Pick: Panthers (+1)
Chicago Bears (+8.5) at Green Bay Packers: To me, nothing caps off Thanksgiving Day like drunken political arguments that end in tears, that third piece of pumpkin pie, and a good, old fashioned NFC Central matchup. Pick: Bears (+8.5)
New York Giants (-2.5) at Washington Redskins: The winner of this game will be in first place in the NFC East. The loser will go back, sad and dejected, to New York. Pick: Redskins (+2.5)
Buffalo Bills (+6.5) at Kansas City Chiefs: I almost hate to pick between these two, as both towns are so terrific at creating meats I love to eat. Pick: Bills (+6.5)
Arizona Cardinals (-10.5) at San Francisco 49ers: At this time, it's fitting to think back on tradition and days of yore. Oh sorry, I don't mean Thanksgiving. I mean just looking at the Cardinals' leaders on offense. Pick: Cardinals (-10.5)
Miami Dolphins (+3.5) at New York Jets: While the Jets' season has deteriorated, Ryan Fitzpatrick's beard is looking as solid as ever. Pick: Jets (-3.5)
Pittsburgh Steelers (+4) at Seattle Seahawks: The Seahawks may actually need the 12th man to suit up and play defense to cover Martavis Bryant and Antonio Brown. Pick: Steelers (+4)
New England Patriots (-3) at Denver Broncos: In this week's episode of It's a Patriots World, and We're All Just Living In It, the Broncos get embarrassed at home and Brock Osweiler confesses he initially was offered the roll of playing Edward in The Twilight Saga, but turned it down. Don't miss it! Pick: Patriots (-3)
Baltimore Ravens (+2.5) at Cleveland Browns: The NFL desperately wanted to make this the Johnny Manziel Show, and had ads running nationwide which featured him. I'm sure the Josh McCown Show will do equally as well. Pick: Browns (-2.5)
So there are my Week 12 picks. The winner this week will have this fabulous prize to look forward to, courtesy of NRG:
Two tickets to the Redskins - Cowboys game on Dec. 7th!!!!!
That's right - you and a friend will get to witness a huge game with playoff implications live and in person!
I will email this week's two contestants, as chosen by Rafflecopter, tomorrow night, and the winner will be announced next Wednesday on the next Hump Day post.
Good luck!!!!
