HH's Hump Day NFL Pick'em - Week 5

Guess what day it is??? Mike Harar is back with Year 3 of his weekly pick'em contest - with new and improved prizes brought to you by NRG!!

Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

Welcome everyone to Week 5 of the 2015 Hump Day NFL Pick'em!

We are back and so happy to continue to work with the good folks at NRG, who provided the excellent prizes last year and will continue to do so this season!

NRG

Happy days are here again thanks to the Redskins' performance against the hated Philadelphia Eagles.  Their Week 4 victory at Fed Ex put them at 2-2 for the season and brought visions of Kirk Cousins leading game-winning drives into our heads.  They are tied for first place in the division, and look like they are going to be, at least for now, competitive this season.  Speaking of competitive, the Hump Day staff and I managed to follow up our solid Week 2 and Week 3 records of 5-5 with another week of 5-5 and finished with a third straight week of five points.  We are nothing if not mediocre, which is an upgrade over the last several years in which we were putrid.

In regards to last week's prize, the randomly selected contestants were JoeSta and Bob_Cohen.  After going head to head with their picks, the winner was:

Bob-Cohen, who finished with a 5-5 record!!!  Congrats to him, and we hope he enjoys his Redskins prize pack!  Now we move on to Week 5.

This is a weekly contest in which I will make ten game picks each Wednesday and invite you, the loyal Hogs Haven readers, to make your own picks in the comments section.

I will still make my picks each week based on the early lines set in Las Vegas, but instead of picking a winner for every game, I will choose ten games that I feel are the most significant.  The games chosen will always include the nationally televised games, the Redskins games (of course), and then whatever other games I find interesting.   This change is not purely due to my laziness, but laziness did play a large role.

I am not capping the amount of entrants this year, so everyone who comments with their picks after the post goes up (using the games I chose), and enters Rafflecopter will have a chance.

******Note: Going forward, please use your Hogs Haven handle as your first name to make it easier to locate your picks in the comments section.******

Two contestants will be chosen using Rafflecopter.  I will announce the two contestants on Thursday night at 7:30pm on our show "The District" found right here on Hogs Haven and streaming live on WBAD radio.

As I mentioned above, I will incorporate the spread as determined by Las Vegas the Tuesday before the games and you can earn 1 point for each correct choice. The contestant with the best score will be the winner.  Ties will be decided, as usual, by our lovely assistant, who will draw a name out of my favorite, dirty, Redskins hat.

The winner will be announced on the next week's Hump Day Pick'em and earn a fabulous prize, courtesy of NRG, that will then be mailed to them.  Each week the prize will change, and every week a prize will be given out.

Simple right?!?!

Here are my 10 picks for this week:

Indianapolis Colts (-1) at Houston Texans: Andrew Luck is hopeful that he can play this week, as are the execs at the NFL Network. Pick: Colts (-1)

Washington Redskins (+7.5) at Atlanta Falcons: The Redskins are beset by multiple injuries, yet are 2-2 and riding high after last week's victory.  Even playing competitively in this game will be a win.  Getting an actual win would be a double win.  Pick: Redskins (+7.5)

Chicago Bears (+9.5) at Kansas City Chiefs: The Chiefs are in a free fall and have lost three straight.  Nothing cures a losing streak like playing the 2015 Bears. Pick: Chiefs (-9.5)

New Orleans Saints (+4.5) at Philadelphia Eagles: Drew Brees can expect an Edible Arrangements from me if he can pull off a win against the Eagles.   Pick: Saints (+4.5)

St. Louis Rams (+9) at Green Bay Packers: If the Packers weren't playing the Rams, this would be a potential Super Bowl preview.  Pick: Packers (-9)

Seattle Seahawks (+3) at Cincinnati Bengals: If not for the league botching its own rule on national TV last Monday, the Seahawks could be 1-3.  I, for one, am really enjoying this new Seahawks team. Pick: Bengals (-3)

New England Patriots (-9) at Dallas Cowboys: I go into this one the same way I went into every Rocky movie: we all know how it's going to end, but it's still fun to watch. Pick: Patriots (-9)

Denver Broncos (-5) at Oakland Raiders: While I'm usually all in on the Broncos, sometimes you just want a burger instead of steak.  Pick: Raiders (+5)

San Francisco 49ers (+7) at New York Giants: Sure, the 49ers shouldn't beat the Giants.  But I shouldn't be eating an Egg McMuffin with hash browns for dinner right now either.  Pick: 49ers (+7)

Pittsburgh Steelers (+3) at San Diego Chargers: Watching Michael Vick play this year reminds me of when The Karate Kid Part II came on TBS recently, and I promised my kids it was a good movie.  Pick: Chargers (-3)

So there are my Week 5 picks. The winner this week will have this fabulous prize to look forward to, courtesy of NRG:

Two tickets to the Redskins-Buccaneers game!!!!!

That's right - Win this week and you and a friend will be heading to Fed Ex field for the big game on October 25th!

I will announce this week's two contestants, as chosen by Rafflecopter, on tomorrow night's episode of "The District", and the winner will be announced next Wednesday (hopefully) on the next Hump Day post.

Good luck!!!!
