Washington Redskins vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers Injury Reports

New, comments

The Redskins will be missing some key players, but could also be getting a few back on the field this week.

Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

Four Washington Redskins starters have already been ruled out of Sunday's game vs the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Redskins top two CB continue to miss games, with DeAngelo Hall(toe) missing his fourth, and Chris Culliver(knee) missing his third straight game due to injuries.  The team has not indicated that either will have surgery soon, but the Redskins will be entering the bye next week and decisions could be made then for the rest of the season. Bashaud Breeland is also dealing with a knee injury, but will get the start again this week.  Will Blackmon will also start again at CB, making his 3rd start of the year for the Redskins after being signed.  Expect rookie Kyshoen Jarrett to continue to get significant playing time as the team's slot CB.

On offense, Center Kory Lichtenstieger(shoulder/finger) will miss his second straight game, and Josh LeRibeus will start in his place. WR DeSean Jackson will remain out until after the bye with a hamstring injury that has sidelined him since Week 1. Jackson was progressing, but a setback during last week's practice kept him out of the Jets game, and will cause him to miss this week.

Chris Thompson has not practice all week, and is listed as doubtful.  The good news for the Redskins running game is that Matt Jones has been able to practice all week and is listed as probable.  The Redskins could still sign one of their two practice squad RBs(Trey Williams, Mack Brown) as injury insurance. The Redskins went into last week's game with Alfred Morris, Thompson and Darrel Young, and had their options limited when Thompson was injured, but played through it.

The big news over night was that Trent Williams and Jordan Reed had been cleared from the NFL's concussion protocol and could be available for Sunday's game.  Jay Gruden explained it a little more during his presser today.

"As far as Jordan and Trent are concerned, Jordan has seen the independent doctor; we're waiting on written confirmation. Trent is going today, this afternoon, and we'll wait and see. Both of them had no setbacks whatsoever but they still have to get cleared and have no symptoms leading up into the game, that's why they're questionable."

They will both need written clearance and to be symptom-free before the game to be able to play, but signs are good that both could be available. This is a very good thing for the Redskins offense and QB Kirk Cousins.

The Redskins defensive line depth is also hurting this week. Stephen Paea has been dealing with a back injury that kept him off the field last week, and he was once again limited in practice all week. Jason Hatcher has been dealing with a "wear and tear" knee issue. If the Redskins are forced to make a roster move at RB, what will happen to poor Frank Kearse? These are the questions that I ask myself every week.
