Happy "Back to the Future" Day and welcome everyone to Week 7 of the 2015 Hump Day NFL Pick'em!
We are back and excited to continue to work with the good folks at NRG, who provided the excellent prizes last year and will continue to do so this season!
It's probably best not to discuss the absolute debacle that was the second half of the Redskins-Jets game last week, so we won't. The Redskins Twitterverse has been in a deeply depressed state following the loss, and sadness and dread are abundant. Our Skins now sit at 2-4, and this week's game against the Bucs has been deemed a "code red" game by the aforementioned Gruden. Ironically, a Code Red at our offices means emergency happy hour at the local Red Roof Inn bar. While we here at the Hump Day offices are always ready to order our own Code Red, we are not ready to hit the panic button on our team, and feel confident that the Burgundy and Gold nation is one good win over the Bucs away from feeling like the season is back on track in a very pathetic NFC East. As for our Week 6 picks, let's just say our regularity is starting to border on ludicrous. For the umpteenth time this season, we finished with five points and a ho-hum 5-4-1 record.
In regards to last week's prize, the randomly selected contestants were don julio and HailingInVegas. After going head to head with their picks, the winner was:
HailingInVegas, who also finished with a 7-2-1 record!!! Congrats to them, and we hope they enjoy the Pierre Garcon signed helmet! Now we move on to Week 7.
This is a weekly contest in which I will make ten game picks each Wednesday and invite you, the loyal Hogs Haven readers, to make your own picks in the comments section.
I will still make my picks each week based on the early lines set in Las Vegas, but instead of picking a winner for every game, I will choose ten games that I feel are the most significant. The games chosen will always include the nationally televised games, the Redskins games (of course), and then whatever other games I find interesting. This change is not purely due to my laziness, but laziness did play a large role.
I am not capping the amount of entrants this year, so everyone who comments with their picks after the post goes up (using the games I chose), and enters Rafflecopter will have a chance.
******Note: Going forward, please use your Hogs Haven handle as your first name to make it easier to locate your picks in the comments section.******
Two contestants will be chosen using Rafflecopter. I will announce the two contestants on Thursday night at 7:30pm on our show "The District" found right here on Hogs Haven and streaming live on WBAD radio.
As I mentioned above, I will incorporate the spread as determined by Las Vegas the Tuesday before the games and you can earn 1 point for each correct choice. The contestant with the best score will be the winner. Ties will be decided, as usual, by our lovely assistant, who will draw a name out of my favorite, dirty, Redskins hat.
The winner will be announced on the next week's Hump Day Pick'em and earn a fabulous prize, courtesy of NRG, that will then be mailed to them. Each week the prize will change, and every week a prize will be given out.
And since this question has come up a lot, I will also point out there is NO limit to the amount of times you can win!
Simple right?!?!
Here are my 10 picks for this week:
Seattle Seahawks (-6.5) at San Francisco 49ers: The Seahawks are reeling following another loss last week. That sentence was fun to write and is even more fun to say out loud. Pick: 49ers (+6.5)
Buffalo Bills (-5.5) vs Jacksonville Jaguars: I can see my future now: Me, initially going online to watch this game, but then deciding just to watch the new Star Wars trailer 200 more times instead. Pick: Bills (-5.5)
Pittsburgh Steelers (-2) at Kansas City Chiefs: Steelers coach Mike Tomlin has been very clear about his quarterback situation this week: Landry Jones is expected to start for the Steelers, unless he doesn't. In which case, Ben Roethlisberger or Mike Vick could play. Or not. Pick: Chiefs (+2)
New York Jets (+9) at New England Patriots: Anyone New England plays against immediately turns into that high school scrub team that's scheduled to visit on homecoming weekend. Pick: Patriots (-9)
Atlanta Falcons (-4.5) at Tennessee Titans: I once again used my powers to take down a pro football team when I designated Atlanta as the Hump Day Pick'em team of destiny last week. It's scary how well that works. Pick: Falcons (-4.5)
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+3.5) at Washington Redskins: Redskins ownership should go along with the Code Red theme and hand out Colonel Jessup masks or pillow cases filled with bars of soap to the first 10,000 fans in the gates. (I've got more cool ideas too if anyone in Ashburn is interested.) Pick: Redskins (-3.5)
New Orleans Saints (+4.5) at Indianapolis Colts: One thing that "Back to the Future" got wrong, or certainly didn't emphasize, was how everyone was still mocking the Colts for that incredible fake punt they ran against the Patriots the previous Sunday. Pick: Saints (+4.5)
Dallas Cowboys (+3.5) at New York Giants: Dallas is coming off a bye week and going into New York with a new terrible quarterback in Matt Cassel. Have you guys heard the expression, "rearranging the chairs on the Titanic?" Pick: Giants (-3.5)
Philadelphia Eagles (+3) at Carolina Panthers: Eagles quarterback Sam Bradford has really mastered his post-interception reaction or, as I call it, "The Bradford Stare". (Eyes wide open, mouth agape) Pick: Panthers (-3)
Baltimore Ravens (+7.5) at Arizona Cardinals: Nothing quite warms the heart like the real life story of a cocky Ravens team having a terrible season. Pick: Cardinals (-7.5)
So there are my Week 7 picks. The winner this week will have this fabulous prize to look forward to, courtesy of NRG:
An autographed Alfred Morris photo!!!!!
That's right - a photo of Alfred Morris signed by the man himself!
I will announce this week's two contestants, as chosen by Rafflecopter, on tomorrow night's episode of "The District", and the winner will be announced next Wednesday (hopefully) on the next Hump Day post.
Good luck!!!!
