Giants Not Interested In Raheem Morris, Interviewing With Redskins Tuesday

The Redskins will finally interview Raheem Morris after allowing him to try for the Giants DC job

The Redskins Defensive Coordinator search is now in Day 12 and there are still more interviews in the works.   One of them will reportedly be with current Redskins DBs coach Raheem Morris.  The Redskins granted permission to the New York Giants last week to interview him for their vacant DC job.  Morris interviewed on Friday, but according to Dianna Russini, he is not in the running for the job.  The fact that the Redskins granted another team permission to interview him before they had interviewed him themselves makes it highly unlikely he is in serious running for the position.

The Redskins have conducted interviews with four candidates so far.  San Diego Chargers LB coach Joe Barry was interviewed Monday and Tuesday, San Francisco 49ers DB coach Ed Donatell was interviewed on Wednesday, and former Houston Texans DC Wade Phillips was interviewed on Thursday.  Current San Francisco 49ers Tight Ends coach Eric Mangini is scheduled to interview for the position today.  Wade Phillips was expected to be the frontrunner for the job, but the Redskins seem to be content looking around to find the best candidate for the job.  There are still 4 teams in the playoffs, and a few good candidates to move up for teams willing to wait.  The Redskins could be one of those teams.

There have been a number of candidates the Redskins were interested in interviewing, but their teams denied permission to speak with them.  The first was 49ers DC Vic Fangio who has interviewed for their Head Coaching job.  His situation is still unresolved and the Redskins are likely watching closely for what the new 49ers coach does with his coaching staff.

The 2nd candidate whose team denied permission to speak to the Redskins was Buffalo Bills DC Jim Schwartz.  His situation is closer to being resolved than Fangio's.  Rex Ryan has been hired as the new Head Coach after Schwartz interviewed for the position.  There have been mixed reports on Schwartz's future with the Bills, especially with Ryan planning on bringing much of his staff from the Jets to the Bills, including DC Dennis Thurman.  Multiple reports today indicate that Schwartz will be gone by tomorrow. Will the Redskins try to interview him once he is done in Buffalo?

Kansas City Chiefs LB coach Gary Gibbs reportedly did not want to interview for the position, and asked the team to deny the Redskins permission to interview him.  Gibbs is either content where he is at, or did not think he had a shot at the position.
