Hall and Ihenacho to IR, Chase Minnifield Signed From Practice Squad

The Redskins lost two defensive players for the season in yesterday's game against the Eagles.

The Redskins announced several roster moves today.  It was reported earlier that DeAngelo Hall ruptured his Achilles tendon and expected to be out for the rest of the year.  There was also a report that Duke Ihenacho had fractured his heel bone and would miss at least a few weeks.  The team has placed both of them on Injured Reserve, ending their 2014 seasons.  Ihenacho's foot injury was sever enough to keep him out of the team's plans for this year.  He is a restricted free agent next year, and it will be interesting to see if he showed the coaching staff enough to have an offer tendered next offseason.  Hall was in the 1st year, of a new 4 year contract.  The coaching staff loves Hall, and he was elected a team captain by his teammates.  But he is going to be 31 next season and coming back from a major injury, surgery, and recovery.  The team has several young cornerbacks on the team, and the team will need Hall back by training camp or they may need to look at their options.

Speaking of young cornerbacks on the team, Chase Minnifield has been signed to the 53-man roster to replace DeAngelo Hall.  He was the only CB on the practice squad after the team released Richard Crawford recently.  Crawford is still a free agent, and could be signed again to fill Minnifield's spot.  The Redskins also need to fill Ihenacho's roster spot, so another roster move is coming soon.

The defensive line is very thin with Barry Cofield  going on short-term IR.  Jason Hatcher injured his hamstring, and Frank Kearse also left the game with an injury before coming back in.  There are two defensive linemen on the Redsins practice squad, rookie NT Robert Thomas and DL Hebron Fangupo who was just signed last week.  They also have a backup Center, Braxton Cave, on the practice squad.  Kory Lichtensteiger left yesterday's game, but returned shortly after.  His only backup at Center is Chris Chester, which creates more depth issues along the line if he has to shift over.  The team could also sign a free agent off the street to fill the spot.  Expect a move to be made by tomorrow.

The Redskins also reached an injury settlement with ILB Darryl Sharpton who was placed on IR at the final roster cutdown.  Sharpton had a high ankle sprain that kept him from practicing and playing the preseason.  It's possible that he is getting healthy, or almost ready to play soon.  The Redskins can not re-sign him after releasing him from IR, unless he signs with another team first and is then released.
