Redskins Sign OLB Jackson Jeffcoat and Center Braxton Cave to Practice Squad

The team has added Texas All-American Jackson Jeffcoat, as well as OL Braxston Cave to the practice squad.

Many of you may remember Jim Jeffcoat.  If not, look him up.  Jim was an excellent DE for the Cowboys from '83-'94.  He had 102.5 sacks in his NFL career and the Redskins just signed his son Jackson to their PS.

Jackson is an OLB/DE out of Texas who was a Senior last year.  He led Texas is QB pressures (19), sacks (13), tackles for a loss (22), and tackles (86).  Last year alone he was a Consensus All-American, Ted Hendricks Award winner (top DE in college), Big 12 Defensive PoY, and First Team All-Big 12.  He shares a number of similarities with Brian Orakpo including position, size, school, collegiate production, and the fact that both have won the Ted Hendricks Award (Orakpo won in '08).  He had been signed by the Seahawks after the draft and was released last week.

The other new PS addition is OL Braxston Cave.  Cave was on the Patriots' PS last year.  The Browns originally signed Cave out of Notre Dame immediately following the draft last year.  Cave is predominantly a Center and was an AP 3rd Team All-American at ND in 2012.

The two players released from the PS to make room for Jeffcoat and Cave are C Tevita Stevens and OLB Chaz Sutton (who was just signed to the PS yesterday).  The practice squad is now as follows:

  • TE Ted Bolser
  • OL Braxston Cave
  • CB Richard Crawford
  • S Akeem Davis
  • OLB Jackson Jeffcoat
  • CB Chase Minnifield
  • S Phillip Thomas
  • DL Robert Thomas
  • RB Chris Thompson
  • WR Nick Williams
