With the 228th pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, the Washington Redskins select...Zach Hocker, kicker from Arkansas. I heard the announcement and waited for the, "Ahhhhh! Gotcha!" It never came. Oh well, here are five thing you should know about Zach Hocker.
#1. Zach played soccer. Bombshell. However, he was offered a scholarship for both football and soccer. The football scholarship was better so he took that instead. Either way, he's still not using his hands.
#2. He appeared in 50 games for the Razorbacks and set a record with 354 points scored.
#3. Hocker is the first kicker the Redskins have chosen in the NFL Draft since taking John Hall from Tennessee in 1999. Including Hocker, the Redskins have chosen seven kickers in the Draft; Mike Braff (1968), Mike Wedman (1973), Mike Flater (1974), Dan Miller (1982), Chip Lohmiller (1988), John Hall (1999), and Zach Hocker (2014).
#4. During training camp, Hocker was told to cut his hair by the veterans. They told him to get a sideways mohawk. He did it. Kai Forbath is reported to have wielded the clippers.
#5. He was cut today.
Bottom Line: Still cut
Here's a video with pics of the sideways mohawk.
