Redskins Place TE Mike Caussin on IR

Mike Caussin was placed on IR after hurting his knee recently

Mike Caussin has not practiced since early in training camp due to a sprained knee, and now the Redskins have ended his season by placing him on IR.  Caussin has had an injury filled NFL career with multiple injuries ending his seasons including a torn ACL, a hip injury, and now his latest knee injury.  The Redskins brought in TE Matt Veldman a week ago which caused some speculation about Jay Gruden's affinity for TEs.  The truth appears to be that Caussin's injury was more severe than reported, or the Redskins simply didn't want to wait for him to get healthy knowing he wasn't making the final roster.  Veldman is a long shot too, but you always need bodies for camp and the Week 4 game against Tampa Bay in a week.

There was no corresponding roster move on the NFL transactions list, so the Redskins roster currently stands at 89 players.  The team could be holding workouts to fill their open spot tomorrow, before they travel up the Beltway to play the Baltimore Ravens on Saturday.

Updates will be posted as they become available.
