Morgan was drafted by the Redskins in the third round of the 2014 NFL Draft. He was the 66th pick overall. He is a Virginia native and lifelong Redskins fan. Here are five things you need to know about Morgan Moses.
#1. Morgan originally signed with The University of Virginia in 2009 but enrolled at Fork Union Military Academy and played for coach John Shuman in order to qualify academically for UVA.
#2. At pick number 66 overall, Morgan is the highest draft pick from UVA for the Redskins ever. He is also the first pick from the school since 1986, when the Redskins drafted Jim Huddleston in the sixth round. Before Moses, that honor belonged to Jonny Papit. He was drafted 76th overall in the 1951 NFL Draft. For the record, this is the 6th time the Redskins have had the 66th pick in the draft.
#3. Morgan is athletic for a big man. He played several sports growing up in Richmond. When he wasn't enjoying a nice cup of tea with his family, he could be found playing baseball, basketball, and football. Morgan also likes to ice skate and played ice hockey as a kid. He also performed in a figure skating adaptation of The Wizard of Oz. I'm still researching to find what part he played.
#4. Moses loves music. He is a talented singer as well as a drummer. He would often compete with his older brother to determine who would play drums for church service on Sunday.
#5. Morgan Moses' beard has its own Twitter account (@NourishTheBeard).
Bottom Line: Morgan Moses is a hard working, fun-loving, large guy. He is also competitive. His history is filled with examples of him meeting challenges. His biggest is transitioning to the NFL. That's harder than the Wizard of Oz on ice.
