Observations from Friday's Practice | Washington Post

Backup quarterback Kirk Cousins remained on the field to throw passes to rehabbing wide receiver Leonard Hankerson. Tight end Logan Paulsen joined in the action to get a couple of extra reps in. But Hankerson was on the receiving end of the bulk of the passes.

Redskins Players, Dan Snyder, Bruce Allen Participate in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge
It may seem like a silly social media meme, but it’s making a difference: The ALS Association reports that it, and its 38 chapters, received $4 million in donations in just two weeks. Last year during that same time period, (July 29-August 12), the association brought in $1.1 million.

Gruden Feeling Good about QB Position as a Whole | Washington Post

Need to Know: Redskins Park News and Notes | CSN Washington

Gruden has generally sounded somewhat annoyed when he talks about Chris Thompson, who is sitting out with an ankle injury. He was asked if Thompson being out helped the other running backs competing for spots on the roster. "It gives them an opportunity, it really does," he said. "Every rep that he doesn't take, somebody is going to take it. Unfortunately for him, his ankle, it's a sprain. It's a high ankle, low ankle, I don't know where it is but it's holding him out. It's unfortunate for him because he was doing a great job, but it does open up a window for other guys that perform and we'll see what they do with it."

Safety Ryan Clark chided general manager/president Bruce Allen after he -- sort of -- punted a ball back to the field of play. Wasn't the most impressive punt, but it's not like it was supposed to be. "It's a good thing you're better at picking players than punting," Clark said. The funny part: Allen once averaged 42.9 yards per punt for the University of Richmond.

Redskins Notes: 3 Players out Monday | ESPN Redskins Blog

Redskins coach Jay Gruden said the starters will play at least a quarter in Monday's preseason game against Cleveland. The Redskins will prepare a little bit for the Browns, but will do that more so for Baltimore, who they play a week from Saturday. Because the Redskins have a shorter turnaround, they did debate having their second game serve as their main one. But they decided to stick with the third game as the test run for the regular season.
