2014 Outlook

Let's start by saying Jordan Reed has been healthy this offseason and 100% in all Redskins offseason activities.  After last year, that's a blessing.  Obviously, the 'Skins are counting heavily on Jordan Reed this season as evidenced by their doing almost nothing (aside from drafting Ted Bolser in the seventh and final round of the draft) to improve the TE corp.  Reed has been with the first team throughout OTAs and mini-camp and appears to be firing on all cylinders.

Reed was enjoying an incredibly successful (personally, at least) rookie season before it was cut short due to a concussion in week 11 against the Eagles that ended up pushing Reed to IR.  Still, he was the first Redskins rookie to catch a TD within the first two games of his career since Chris Cooley in '04 and set a franchise record for receiving yards by a rookie TE after a nine reception, 134 yard, 1 TD game against the Bears.  Even after only playing nine games (and only starting four) he was still named to the Pro Football Writer's of America All-Rookie Team.  Barring injury, he figures to play a major role in the Redskins offense this season.

Reed is one of the more athletic TE's in the NFL and at almost 6'3", he is the tallest of the Redskins' starting receiving threats and figures to play a prominent role in the red zone.  Defensive backs are too small to cover him and Linebackers are too slow to cover him.  Though he's a TE, Reed has demonstrated a great deal of WR ability.  His unique abilities give the Redskins the advantage in a mismatch almost every time he lines up.

I'm predicting a stellar, Pro Bowl-caliber season for Reed this year.  Put me down for 80 receptions, 887 yards, and 5 TDs.  He'll obviously contribute a ton in the passing game, especially against the blitz and in the red zone, and should be aided by Jay Gruden's presence as a coach who likes to throw the ball and has shown an ability to maximize the usage and potential of his TEs.  Reed just has to stay healthy and avoid the concussions.

Roster Prediction: Making Roster

Reed's proven a lot.  The only thing left to prove is that he can stay healthy.  If he can, I don't see why he can't be a top 3-5 TE in this league.  He's a lock to be the 'Skins starting TE.  It's going to be fun to see that potential he showed flashes of last year on display for a complete season, only better.

Personal Information

Jordan was born and raised in Connecticut.  He was an excellent QB in HS and led his school to an undefeated season in 2007.  He was even a finalist for the 2008 HS QB of the Year.  He was a four-star recruit and rated the 10th best dual-threat QB in the nation coming out of HS.  He was recruited to Florida as a QB.  Obviously he shifted to TE and it appears that was a great choice.  He has faced some scrutiny over his concussion problems.  He suffered some at Florida and it's not exactly known how many he suffered last year as a Redskin.  He's admitted to lying about his symptoms in order to continue playing.
