Washington Redskins Draft Profiles: Walt Aikens, CB

Hogs Haven takes a look at NFL prospects heading into the 2014 draft

Walt Aikens

Cornerback

Height: 6' 1", Weight: 203 lbs

Liberty

Strengths: Aikens has a great build for the cornerback position. He is a fluid runner with good vision. He ran a 4.42 second 40-yard dash at his pro day. He tackles well and is willing to use his body to take a ball carrier down. Aikens is also active in run support. He plays cornerback aggressively and made a great impression at the Senior Bowl. He should transition well to the NFL.

Weaknesses: Aikens has a tendency to give the receiver a big cushion. His aggressive play means he can get a little grabby downfield. He will occasionally cross his feet when mirroring the receiver, which might lead to tripping himself up. Aikens was arrested for misdemeanor theft in 2010 while playing for Illinois, which resulted in his being kicked off the team.

Bottom Line: Walt Aikens is a talented cornerback. He has every chance to be the player from the small school who makes an impact.

Projected Round: 3

Team He Fits Best On: Redskins, Buccaneers, Lions
