The Redskins continue to add depth at the safety position, as Reed Doughty is forced to make yet another Voodoo doll for this year's training camp. Mike Jones of the Washington Post reports that the team has signed Akeem Davis, 25, who played both safety positions during his college career at Memphis. The team also worked out former Ravens safety Christian Thompson, but decided to sign Akeem Davis instead. Christian Thompson has been out of the league since being suspended for violating the NFL's Substance Abuse Policy, and then being cut by the Ravens following his reinstatement. Davis joins Brandon Meriweather, Ryan Clark, Phillip Thomas, Bacarri Rambo, Jose Gumbs, and Trenton Robinson at safety. The Redskins could also look to next months draft to improve the talent level of one of their weakest position groups last season.
Davis was not invited to the 2013 scouting combine, but reportedly had 40-yard dash times of 4.48 and 4.45 at his pro day.
The 6-foot, 201-pound Davis signed with the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent last spring, but didn’t make their roster in the fall.
Davis appeared in 34 games for Memphis, starting 27 of them, recording 162 tackles, three interceptions, nine pass breakups, five forced fumbles, seven fumble recoveries and 2.5 sacks.

Watched film on new #Redskins S Akeem Davis last night. Guy has to find his niche. Played a ton of LB in college. Some SS. He may be a FS.
