Narrowing Down the Redskins Possibilities at Pick 34

Jerry Lai-US PRESSWIRE

It has taken me a little over two weeks, but I have finally got my position choices narrowed down. A lot of film study, reading scouting reports, and even talking to a few NFL guys helped me through the process. Now this is still very fluid, and a lot can change from now until the draft, but this will be my first step in building a draft plan that will best fit this team for the 34th pick. I wanted to share this with everyone, so we can begin the process of targeting our top pick together.

Below is a list of positions I am not currently focusing on at pick 34, and why. Mind you, this could change after the combine, and free agency. This also is assuming we stay put at pick 34, and do not trade back.

QB - No explanation necessary.

RB - No explanation necessary.

TE - Not a major need; would be considered a luxury pick.

OT - Unless one of the top five slip out of the first round, IMO, there is not a prospect worth the 34th pick.

C - Not a prospect worthy of the 34th pick.

3-4 OLB - The top two 3-4 OLB prospects should be gone by pick 20. There is not a prospect worth the 34th pick.

MLB - Outside of C.J. Mosley, there is not a player worth the 34th pick.

SS - Not a prospect worthy of the 34th pick.

K - No explanation necessary.

P - No explanation necessary.

So this leaves five positions I will focus on moving forward, all while keeping an eye on a few players from the offensive tackle crop, in case one were to slide out of the first round.

WR - This is the deepest position in the draft, and the depth of top-end talent is the best I have seen in the modern draft era.

G - Surprised here? There is just one prospect I have targeted for pick 34, and if he goes before we pick, I can take this position out of the equation.

DT - This is another fairly deep position in the 2014 draft. It will however, take a prospect to drop a bit for me to have them as our choice at 34.

CB - Next to wide receiver, cornerback is the second deepest position in the top half of the draft. The class does not boast a true star, but there are plenty of quality prospects who will be available at pick 34.

FS - This is another tough one to gauge, but there are currently two prospects, that if they were to slip a bit, would be of consideration at pick 34.

I currently have between 10-13 players among these five positions who I am targeting. I figure to have around 15 heading into the combine, and should have that narrowed down to a top 10 by mid March.

Targets:

WR - Kelvin Benjamin, Allen Robinson, Odell Beckham Jr., Jordan Matthews

OG - David Yankey

DT - RaShede Hageman, Stephon Tuitt

CB - Jason Verrett, Marcus Roberson, Bradley Roby, Louchiez Purifoy

FS - HaHa Clinton-Dix, Calvin Pryor
