UPDATED: Redskins Waive Greg Ducre, Everette Brown, and Steve Beauharnais, Make Several More Roster Moves

New, comments

The Redskins waived three players, signed one from the practice squad, signed a player from the Chiefs practice squad, and signed two more players to their practice squad

The Redskins waived three defensive players who are spending time on their first year on the team.  Everette Brown was with the team during the preseason, but was waived during the final cuts in favor of Gabe Miller.  When Brian Orakpo was placed on injured reserve, Brown was re-signed to backup rookie Trent Murphy.  Gabe Miller was re-signed last week and now Brown is once again without a job.

Steve Beauharnais was signed from the practice squad two weeks ago when Special Teams captain Adam Hatward was placed on injured reserve.  He was used almost exclusively on special teams, playing only one snap on defense this week vs the Rams.

The biggest loss is my boy Greg Ducre!, who is currently tied for the interceptions lead on the team with...1.  Ducre played against the San Francisco 49ers and got the first interception of his career against Colin Kaepernick.  Ducre was playing mostly special teams, but the suspension of David Amerson, and multiple injures in the secondary forced him into action and he delivered early.  But  he was not able to stay in the lineup, going from 29% of the defensive snaps two weeks ago, to 0% on defense and only 4 snaps on special teams this week.

In other moves, the Redskins signed Trevardo Williams from their practice squad to the 53-man roster.  DE/LB Williams(6'1" 237 lbs) was a former 4th round draft pick by the Houston Texans.  Williams played college ball at UCONN and recorded 30.5 sacks, 133 tackles, and 5 forced fumbles.  Williams was placed on injured reserve during his rookie season for an ankle injury and did not appear in any games.  The following year, he was released during training camp and claimed by the Arizona Cardinals.  Williams was released less than a week later, then signed to the Indianapolis Colts practice squad the following month.  The Colts released him last week to make room for Kelcy Quarles and now Williams has landed with his 4th team in the last two seasons.  He was signed to the Redskins practice squad last week.

They also signed LB Ja'Gared Davis from the Kansas City Chiefs practice squad.  Davis(6', 235 lbs) went to SMU and was undrafted in 2013.  He was signed by the Houston Texans as an undrafted free agent, but was released during final offseason cuts.  The New England Patriots claimed him on waivers.  He was active for 6 games while with the Patriots the last two seasons, including two playoff games from last season.  He has one tackle recorded in the NFL.

Two more players were signed to the practice squad, along with WR Rashad Ross who was re-signed to the practice squad yesterday.  RB Michael Hill(5'10", 210 lbs) and ILB Justin Jackson(6'1", 233lbs) were added to the practice squad.  Hill went to Missouri Western State, and was signed as an undrafted free agent by the San Diego Chargers in 2013.  He has spent time with several teams since then, most recently on the Indianapolis Colts practice squad until last month. Jackson went to Wake Forest and was signed by the Detroit Lions as an undrafted free agent.  He was waived during the offseason and claimed by the Minnesota Vikings.

These moves leave one open spot on the Washington Redskins roster.

[UPDATE: 12/10/14 10:31AM] The Redskins announced they have filled the open spot on the roster with CB Justin Rogers

Cornerback Justin Rogers(5'11", 181 lbs, 26 years old) played for Richmond, and was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the 7th Round in 2011.  He was released by the Bills during the 2013 season and has spent time with the Texans, Dolphins, and Chiefs since then.  He has started 7 games, all with Buffalo, and has recorded 64 tackles, 14 passes defended, and 3 INTs.
