HH's Hump Day NFL Pick'em - Week 14

Guess what day it is??? Mike Harar continues Year 2 of his weekly pick'em contest - with new and improved prizes!!

Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

Welcome, everybody, to Week 14 of the Hump Day NFL Pick'em, with special prizes brought to you each week by our friends at NRG!

Well, as everyone knows, it turned out to be another soul crushing week for Redskins fans.  The Redskins defense laid another big fat egg on Sunday, and it was beyond painful to watch.  While the Indianapolis Colts found points very easy to come by, the Hump Day Pick'em staff did not.  To compound our misery, we finished with our worst record yet of 4-12.  Would any of our twenty contestants come close to beating that incredibly low number?  Here were the top 10 performers:

Congrats to Skinsfan777!!!!!!  Please email me your shirt size and address as soon as possible and we will get your prize right out to you.

The 4-12 week dealt a devastating blow to our season-long quest of finishing with a winning record.  We now sit at 91-100-1, and will need an increasingly unlikely strong finish to achieve our goal.  With unflinching and undeserved faith in ourselves, we move on to Week 14!

Here we go!

For those of you who are new to our game, I state the rules:

This is a weekly contest in which I will make my game picks each Wednesday and invite you, the loyal Hogs Haven readers, to make your own picks in the comments section.

I will incorporate the spread as determined by Las Vegas the Tuesday before the games and you can earn 1 point for each correct choice.  I will add up the points at the end of each week, and the winner will earn a fabulous prize, courtesy of NRG, that will then be mailed to them.  If there are multiple contestants tied for the lead, there will be a drawing to determine the overall winner.  There will only be twenty contestants, so the first twenty responses will get in.

Each week the prize will change, and this year (unlike last year), a prize will be given out every single week since you are now only competing against each other and not me.  Simple right??

Here are my picks for this week:

Dallas Cowboys (-3.5) at Chicago Bears: It's now time for my favorite part of the season: the annual December Cowboys meltdown!   Pick: Bears (+3.5)

Baltimore Ravens (+3) at Miami Dolphins: The Dolphins will reach the .500 mark (22-22) under head coach Joe Philbin with a win here.  Color me jealous.   Pick: Dolphins (-3)

Pittsburgh Steelers (+3) at Cincinnati Bengals: The AFC North is coming down to the wire with all four teams.  Who dey always seem to fall on their face before they can cross the finish line?  Pick: Steelers (+3)

Indianapolis Colts (-4) at Cleveland Browns: It appeared Johnny Football could get his first start in the NFL this week, which everyone here at the Hump Day offices was excited about as it greatly enhanced our odds of seeing Justin Bieber doing something stupid on the sidelines.  Alas, it was not to be.  Pick: Colts (-4)

Houston Texans (-5) at Jacksonville Jaguars: Hey, watch out for those feisty Jaguars all of the sudden...  Pick: Texans (-5)

New York Giants (PK) at Tennessee Titans: When all seems bleak, I just remember the Giants are having as bad a season as we are, and then life isn't so bad anymore.  Pick: Giants (PK)

Carolina Panthers (+9.5) at New Orleans Saints: There is nothing like an early December matchup with huge divisional consequences on the line between a five-win team (Saints) and a three-win team (Panthers).  Pick: Saints (-9.5)

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+9.5) at Detroit Lions: All that the Buccaneers have left to fight for is the title of "King of the NFC Basement". The Redskins have been giving them steady competition all year and it will be fun to watch the battle progress.  Pick: Lions (-9.5)

St. Louis Rams (-2.5) at Washington Redskins: On the bright side, there shouldn't be too many Rams fans at FedEx either.   Pick: Redskins (+2.5)

New York Jets (+6) at Minnesota Vikings: Geno Smith vs. Teddy Bridgewater!  If you can't get up for this one, you're dead inside. Pick: Jets (+6)

Buffalo Bills (+10) at Denver Broncos: The records indicate this could be a close matchup.  However, everything else points to this game being the equivalent of a steam roller going over a ham sandwich.  Pick: Broncos (-10)

Kansas City Chiefs (+1) at Arizona Cardinals: I'd like to go with the Cardinals here, but it's hard when they literally have no quarterbacks on the roster.   Pick: Chiefs (+1)

San Francisco 49ers (-8) at Oakland Raiders: Remember back in the old days in Madden where you could switch teams with the computer mid-game just for the fun of it?  If the Raiders are willing to put the right offer on the table, Jim Harbaugh could actually pull that off in real life on Sunday.  Pick: 49ers (-8)

Seattle Seahawks (+1.5) at Philadelphia Eagles: After last week's win and the Cardinals loss, the Seahawks now control their own destiny.  Of course, don't we all?  Pick: Eagles (-1.5)

New England Patriots (-3.5) at San Diego Chargers: There are two constants with the Patriots in the Bill Belichick era. Head coach press conferences that are breathlessly boring and the team never losing two games in a row. (Our Hump Day stats team has assured me that "never" is the appropriate term here.) Pick: Patriots (-3.5)

Atlanta Falcons (+12) at Green Bay Packers: The Packers seem pretty much unstoppable at this point.  On the other side, the Falcons are just hoping they get invited back to do Hard Knocks next summer.  Pick: Packers (-12)

There are my Week 14 picks. The winner this week will have this fabulous prize to look forward to, courtesy of NRG:

Two tickets to see the Redskins take on the Philadelphia Eagles at FedEx Field on December 20th!!

That's right- you and a friend will go see the Burgundy and Gold try to upset our hated division rival live and in person...

I will announce this week's winner next Wednesday on the next Hump Day post.

Good luck!!
