HH's Hump Day NFL Pick'em - Week 16

Guess what day it is??? Mike Harar continues Year 2 of his weekly pick'em contest - with new and improved prizes!!

Robert Deutsch-USA TODAY Sports

Welcome, everybody, to Week 16 of the Hump Day NFL Pick'em, with special prizes brought to you each week by our friends at NRG!

Mercifully, there are only two more games to go in this Redskins season.  This week, while it could be argued that the Redskins and Robert Griffin III showed some heart and tenacity in their loss to the Giants, the staff at the Hump Day Pick'em did not.  After finishing last week at 5-11, we went back to our season low of 4 wins (4-11-1), giving us four paltry points.  Would any of our twenty contestants come close to beating that pathetic number?  Here were the top 10 performers:

Congrats to HPU2006!!!!!!  Please email me your address and jersey size as soon as possible and we will get your Kerrigan jersey right out to you.

Getting only four wins again for the week is pretty much the final nail in our .500 coffin.  We now sit at 100-121-3 and need a miracle at this point.  With all hope fairly dashed and our focus drifting towards the offseason, we move on to Week 16!

Here we go!

For those of you who are new to our game, I state the rules:

This is a weekly contest in which I will make my game picks each Wednesday and invite you, the loyal Hogs Haven readers, to make your own picks in the comments section.

I will incorporate the spread as determined by Las Vegas the Tuesday before the games and you can earn 1 point for each correct choice.  I will add up the points at the end of each week, and the winner will earn a fabulous prize, courtesy of NRG, that will then be mailed to them.  If there are multiple contestants tied for the lead, there will be a drawing to determine the overall winner.  There will only be twenty contestants, so the first twenty responses will get in.

Each week the prize will change, and this year (unlike last year), a prize will be given out every single week since you are now only competing against each other and not me.  Simple right??

Here are my picks for this week:

Tennessee Titans (+3) at Jacksonville Jaguars: As a Redskins fan, this will be a great chance to see our competition for the top of the 2015 draft.  As a football fan, gouging out one's eyes may seem to be a better option than actually watching. Pick: Jaguars (-3)

San Diego Chargers (+2.5) at San Francisco 49ers: On the plus side for San Francisco, at least this wasn't a complete and utter unhinging of a season, a la Shanahan's last year in Washington.   Pick: Chargers (+2.5)

Philadelphia Eagles (-8) at Washington Redskins: It's obvious that Jay Gruden has very little faith in Robert Griffin III at this point and is only playing him because he has to.  How invigorating when you realize there's a high likelihood we'll be going through this same scenario next year too!  Pick: Eagles (-8)

Minnesota Vikings (+6.5) at Miami Dolphins: This game involves two mediocre teams playing out the string and trying to play respectable ball as the season winds down.  And YES, I am jealous of their fans.  Pick: Dolphins (-6.5)

Green Bay Packers (-10.5) at Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Doesn't seem fair that Tampa will catch all the flak for the Packers' upset loss in Buffalo last week.  Someone has to pay though... Pick: Packers (-10.5)

Detroit Lions (-7) at Chicago Bears: That coldness you feel emanating from Chicago has nothing to do with the weather.  I mean, the weather is probably a factor, too, but there's also the whole thing about the team being terrible.  Pick: Lions (-7)

Atlanta Falcons (+6) at New Orleans Saints: The Saints currently sit atop their division at 6-8, but need this win to stay there.  The NFC South to the NFL is like that cousin everyone has who smells and says stupid things at family functions but keeps getting invited back because he's family.  Pick: Saints (-6)

New England Patriots (-10) at New York Jets: Can Rex Ryan take one from the Patriots on his way out the door in New York?  My heart says no, but my brain also says no.  Pick: Patriots (-10)

Kansas City Chiefs (+3) at Pittsburgh Steelers: This looks like it should be fun and one of the games where you just pick a winner based on who plays at a home field named after your favorite ketchup.   Pick: Steelers (-3)

Cleveland Browns (+4) at Carolina Panthers: Ok, so Johnny Football's first game didn't go the way he would've liked.  You know what's worse for an opponent than an angry Manziel?  Well, outside of an angry and drunk Manziel, not much, my friend. Pick: Browns (+4)

Baltimore Ravens (-5.5) at Houston Texans: The Texans are technically still alive heading into this game.  Of course, a raisin is technically still a grape, too.  Pick: Ravens (-5.5)

New York Giants (+5) at St. Louis Rams: It's funny (awful) how Odell Beckham went from someone I was mildly interested in to someone I hate (am terrified of) in one game last week.   Pick: Giants (+5)

Buffalo Bills (-6) at Oakland Raiders: Who would be shocked if the Bills went from beating the Packers last week to losing to the Raiders this week?  Maybe only the Raiders.  Pick: Bills (-6)

Indianapolis Colts (+3) at Dallas Cowboys: This is a huge game that will have a huge audience.  Not me, of course, as I'll most likely be watching Elf on ABC Family for the 506th time.  Pick: Colts (+3)

Seattle Seahawks (-8) at Arizona Cardinals: The Cardinals are the cockroaches of the NFL this year.  Everyone wants to count them out, but they stay in dark places and just won't die.  Pick: Cardinals (+8)

Denver Broncos (-3.5) at Cincinnati Bengals: Because the Bengals need this...Come on, everyone say it with me:  THEY WON'T DO IT!!  Pick: Broncos (-3.5)

There are my Week 16 picks. The winner this week will have this fabulous prize to look forward to, courtesy of NRG:

That's right-it's your last chance of the season to get a football signed by Pierre Garcon!!!

I will announce this week's winner next Wednesday on the next Hump Day post.

Good luck!!
