During Jay Gruden's presser today, he confirmed that Colt McCoy had re-injured his neck and he would not be available this week for the Eagles game on Saturday.  Robert Griffin III will get the start with Kirk Cousins as his backup.  McCoy left yesterday's game after one full series following a play where he was stood up by multiple defenders, injuring his neck.  He said after the game that he his neck was aggravated and "locked everything up" He was being examined on the sidelines while Griffin came into the game.  Griffin played one of his better halves of the year early, but the Giants adjusted during the 2nd half.  Gruden said today that Griffin improved during the game, and will have the opportunity vs the Eagles to take the starting job and "run with it".

"Robert competed in the first half - did some good things," Gruden said. "Obviously we didn't do so well in the second half as a group offensively but I was pleased with the way Robert competed and hopefully we can build on that going forward into next week."

Asked what stood out about Griffin's play, Gruden said, "I thought he played with good energy. I thought he took the ball down and ran it when he had to a few times, and was pretty efficient in the passing game. For whatever reason, in the second half we couldn't get it going. We got in some third downs and weren't able to convert again, and that was unfortunate. He's just got to continue to go through the same progressions and see the concepts, but something to build off of from last week, hopefully."

CSN Washington's Tarik El-Bashir is reporting that the Redskins will get more information about the severity of McCoy's neck injury before deciding if placing him on injured reserve is the best option.  If McCoy is IR'd, the Redskins will reportedly only keep two QBs on the 53-man roster.  They could bring in a QB on the practice squad, but El-Bashir did not mention that option.
