David Amerson is one of the young men the Redskins are hoping will resurrect Washington's defense. He is a physical player who is not afraid to use his body. He is growing into his position. As he grows, the game slows down for him. At least that's what he told us when we interviewed him during DeAngelo Hall's Draft party this year. With that shameless bit of nonsense, here are five things you need to know about David Amerson.
#1. David has started the David Amerson Foundation. "The David Amerson Foundation is dedicated to improving the lives of youth and families in North Carolina and Virginia. By providing financial assistance and hosting youth camps, charitable events, and mentorships, David looks to provide local youth with the tools, foundation, and opportunites for future success." The foundation has football camps in addition to giving away turkeys for Thanksgiving and toys for Christmas.
#2. After being drafted by the Redskins, David hosted a party with his childhood friend, Keenan Allen.
#3. There is no #3 (thank you to John Cleese for unauthorized use of the number three).
#4. Amerson was born in Honolulu, HI, but went to high school at James B. Dudley High School in Greensboro, North Carolina.
#5. During training camp this year, David carpooled with DeAngelo Hall to Richmond. He switched to Brandon Meriweather on the ride back.
David has to take control of the secondary with the season ending injury suffered by DeAngelo Hall. It is a heck of a lot to ask for such a young player. This is the time for Amerson to step up and be a leader. Someone has to.
