Welcome everybody to Week 6 of the Hump Day NFL Pick'em, with special prizes brought to you each week by our friends at NRG!
We had another nice, calm Sunday this past weekend, as the Redskins played (and lost) on Monday Night Football. We could not be more disappointed in our team's 1-4 record, and the only thing that could possible lift our sad spirits would be a great performance in the Hump Day Pick'em. We finished with a respectable 8-7 posting, giving us eight points. Would any of our (now) twenty contestants join us in respectability? Here were the top 10 performers:

In what turned out to be our most hotly contested Pick'em to date, we finished with a FIVE-way tie at the top with ten points! As per our usual practice, our lovely assistant drew a name out of our favorite Redskins cap and pulled out the following:
Congrats to jam1337!!!!!! Please email me your address and we will get your prize right out to you.
So with our solid week, we improved our overall record to 33-42-1. Let us now move on to Week 6!
Here we go!
For those of you who are new to our game, I state the rules:
This is a weekly contest in which I will make my game picks each Wednesday and invite you, the loyal Hogs Haven readers, to make your own picks in the comments section.
I will incorporate the spread as determined by Las Vegas the Tuesday before the games and you can earn 1 point for each correct choice. I will add up the points at the end of each week, and the winner will earn a fabulous prize, courtesy of NRG, that will then be mailed to them. If there are multiple contestants tied for the lead, there will be a drawing to determine the overall winner. There will only be twenty contestants, so the first twenty responses will get in.
Each week the prize will change, and this year (unlike last year), a prize will be given out every single week since you are now only competing against each other and not me. Simple right??
Here are my picks for this week:
Indianapolis Colts (-2.5) at Houston Texans: It does not make me upset in any way to see the successes of Andrew Luck and Russell Wilson while RG3 struggles to stay on the field. Not in any way, shape or form. No, sir. Pick: Colts (-2.5)
Denver Broncos (-8) at New York Jets: Payton Manning joined Brett Favre as the only quarterbacks in NFL history to throw for 500 touchdowns. Ironically, on the same week, Geno Smith became the only quarterback in NFL history to miss a team meeting because he didn't realize there was a three hour time difference in San Diego. Pick: Broncos (-8)
Pittsburgh Steelers (+2) at Cleveland Browns: Sure, Brian Hoyer leads comebacks and makes the Browns somewhat respectable, but he's so boring. Pick: Steelers (+2)
Jacksonville Jaguars (+6) at Tennessee Titans: I imagine if some reporter was brave enough to ask Ken Whisenhunt in a press conference how he felt about the Jags only getting six points in Tennessee, he'd ramble on about how dangerous a quarterback Blake Bortles is before just admitting it's the low point of his career. Pick: Titans (-6)
Chicago Bears (+3) at Atlanta Falcons: If I didn't have the Redzone channel, I would be interested in sitting down and watching this whole game. It's a great matchup and anything is better than getting dragged to the grocery store. Pick: Bears (+3)
Green Bay Packers (-3.5) at Miami Dolphins: It seems fitting here to say the Packers will be fishing for a win this Sunday in Miami. It's not though, because dolphins are mammals. Plus, that's just a dumb thing to say. Pick: Packers (-3.5)
Detroit Lions (-2) at Minnesota Vikings: My gut feeling to send Calvin Johnson a sympathy card as soon as I drafted him in the first round of my fantasy draft has been proven correct. Pick: Vikings (+2)
Carolina Panthers (+7) at Cincinnati Bengals: Interesting fun fact: In the wild, panthers and Bengal tigers rarely cross paths. Also, aardvarks love pasta. Pick: Bengals (-7)
New England Patriots (-3) at Buffalo Bills: Like I've always said, Kyle Orton is the best quarterback for the job in Buffalo. Pick: Patriots (-3)
Baltimore Ravens (-3) at Tampa Bay Buccaneers: The worst part about the Redskins season is that it makes it virtually impossible for me to rip on Bucs' fans anymore. Pick: Ravens (-3)
San Diego Chargers (-7) at Oakland Raiders: The Tony Sparano era begins in Oakland this weekend following a 0-4 start to the season by the Raiders. Sparano is reportedly already having second thoughts, however, after the team set him up in a cube instead of giving him an office. Pick: Chargers (-7)
Dallas Cowboys (+8.5) at Seattle Seahawks: Is there a lesser of two evils here? I don't think so. Pick: Cowboys (+8.5)
Washington Redskins (+3.5) at Arizona Cardinals: After seeing signs of life and a little bit of fight in them in their loss to Seattle, Washington heads west to try and catch a banged up 3-1 Cardinals team that may be napping on them. Yet somehow, whenever that is the case, the Redskins always seem to step on the bubble wrap that was left on the floor. Pick: Redskins (+3.5)
New York Giants (+2.5) at Philadelphia Eagles: This is the second game of the week where all I can do is root for is for each team to lose somehow. Pick: Eagles (-2.5)
San Francisco 49ers (-3.5) at St. Louis Rams: Kudos to the NFL schedule makers for consistently putting competitive game after competitive game on the nationally televised docket this season. Pick: 49ers (-3.5)
So there are my Week 6 picks. The winner this week will have this fabulous prize to look forward to, courtesy of NRG:
Two tickets to the Redskins-Titans game at FedEx Field on October 19!
That's right - you and a friend will get a first hand look at our Burgundy and Gold as they try to work their way back to .500!
I will announce this week's winner next Wednesday on the next Hump Day post.
Good luck!!
