Washington Redskins Draft Profiles: Kirby Van Der Kamp (PUNTER!)

Hogs Haven takes a look at this year's top punter, Kirby Van Der Kamp.

Kirby Van Der Kamp

Punter

Height: 6'4" Weight: 202 lbs

Iowa State University

Strengths: Apparently this Vand Der Kamp fella is pretty good at punting. This is important to a team who had a historically terrible special teams unit last season. He has a strong, accurate leg and has the ability to drop the ball inside the 20 with regularity.

Weaknesses: I have to be honest, I'm not sure of any weaknesses to be found in his punting game. Seems pretty solid.

Bottom Line: Punter is a position that we don't really talk about until the one we have starts stinking up the joint. Van Der Kamp can join a team like the Redskins and immediately improve their special teams unit. Huge punt returns and kickoff returns were one of the many Achilles heels for the Redskins last season. Does anyone remember us pinning a team inside the 5 on a punt last year? Anyone?

Some may view Van Der Kamp as a wasted pick if his fifth round projection holds true. I differ.

Projected Round: 5-7

Team He Fits Best On: Redskins, Redskins, Redskins and Redskins
