State of the Redskins Depth Chart: Quarterbacks

Sean Patterson examines the depth of the Quarterback position for the Redskins and who will make the 53-man roster.

Al Bello

Well, this is going to be a short one. It is quarterback time!

Robert Griffin III- So, if you did not see the 2012 season, you are in for a pleasant surprise. If you did see the 2012 season, then you know the week one starting quarterback for the Redskins, as long as he is actually healthy of course. If Robert is not healthy, he better start the season on PUP. Excuse me, I have to go outside to start and RG3 chant. Just because I can. And other people will join me. DC has a song now. Sing with joy everyone.

Kirk Cousins- Kirk Cousins was one of the biggest surprise of all the players drafted for the Redskins in 2012. Cousins was effective in his one start against Cleveland last season and he played extremely well during the Titans in week 1 of the preseason. Kirk did struggle during the Steelers game in week 2, but he was injured early in the game and did not get the chance to really get started. Cousins should be ready to start week 1 just in case Robert is not ready to play. I think it is much more probable that Kirk will be starting week 1, so lets hope his sprain is all healed up.

Rex Grossman- Rex Grossman has played extremely well during his snaps in the preseason and looks like he could start a game in the Redskins offense. That is a sentence I thought I would never type. Rex only threw one really bad interception during the Steelers/Redskins preseason game, but tight end Jordan Reed admitted after the game that he ran the wrong route and the interception was not all Rex’s fault. Grossman has commanded the first team offense well and beat up on the second team defenses, as any veteran quarterback should. Rex has been quite the surprise for me this preseason. The third string quarterback competition is the most intense quarterback competition in camp this season. Just the way I like it.

Pat White- Pat White, like Rex Grossman, has also played extremely well during his snaps in the preseason. Although, I am not sure he could start a regular season game for the Redskins yet. White has demonstrated his command of the read option offense during the preseason, but he has not played against any 1st team defenses during the games. This is not a good sign for Pat White. White will likely be the odd man out for the quarterbacks on the Redskins 53-man roster.
