Career Summary:

Playing in the shadow of Josh Boyce, a fourth round pick in 2013 for the Patriots, the diminutive but lightening fast Dawson was still able to display his big play capability during his college career. He was an All-Big 12 Honorable Mention in 2012 and excelled in the return game, averaging 9.3 yards per attempt on punt returns and 23.1 yards per attempt on kick returns. That was good enough to finish in the top five in both categories in the conference.

What is coming in 2013:

There is certainly only one way Dawson will make the regular season roster, and that will be for him to show his wares in the return game. While Richard Crawford raised some eyebrows with his prowess on punt returns, the kick return game was underwhelming with Niles Paul getting the most opportunities towards the end of 2012. The Redskins list twelve wide receivers currently on the roster, and he would have to do his best 2010 Brandon Banks impression to stand out. He is taller and heavier than Banks ever was and may be a more refined slot receiver already. There were multiple reports out of the most recent OTA's that Dawson made some spectacular catches. The team will likely keep no more than six receivers, so it will take quite a preseason showing to bump one of the veterans ahead of him on the depth chart. If he is able to show some ability to play in the league, he could be a good practice squad candidate as well.
