Has D.C. Gone the Longest of All Cities with Four Major Sports to Not Win a Title?

A detailed look at all the U.S. cities with four major sports and the most recent year that city got to party in the streets. Amazingly, Washington is not the worst city with its' 21 year drought....but barely.

A common topic I like to bounce around with friends is what D.C. team is most likely to win a championship next for this starved city. D.C. sports fans have not celebrated for 22 years....that is absurdly a long time to not get lucky with at least ONE roster. Hell, even the Marlins and Diamondbacks have us beat!

I try not to get depressed that my entire 20s and now 30s have gone empty with the chance to celebrate on Pennsylvania Avenue flask in hand. I was on F Street enjoying the scene for the Caps 2001 Stanley Cup home series, which of course lasted 20 minutes since they got swept by the Red Wings. Fun Times. I have not given up hope, but it made me think:

Of all the cities with four major sports....has D.C. gone the longest without a championship?

To my surprise, D.C. has not....but barely. Washington's last title of course was the Redskins in 1992. Minnesota's last title was the Twins in 1991. Otherwise....the rest of the pack start at 2001....almost a full decade later of title runs. Ugh.

Who would have thought in 2011 that the Redskins and Nationals would be our greatest hope? While neither teams looks solid to win titles this year (reverse jinx), I'm just hoping that if we go another 20 years like this, I'm still able to control my drool enough for my grandchildren to wheel me to a perched window overlooking Pennsylvania Ave....flask in hand feeding tube.

Oh, and to make things slightly weirder, the Twins last championship in 1991 was with D.C.'s former baseball team, the Washington Senators. I guess even when we move cities we still stink.
