Key Career Stats

- Unanimous All-American (2012)

College Stats: 15 Passes Defended, 6 Forced Fumbles, 13 Interceptions

2012 Stats: 5 Passes Defended, 4 Forced Fumbles, 8 Interceptions

2012 Highlight: On his college highlight reels, Thomas looks like he is no stranger to pass coverage and he managed to come away with 8 interceptions during his senior season. Below is his college highlight reel so you can get a sneak peak at this new Redskin.

What is coming in 2013: Phillip Thomas is projected to compete for the starting strong safety job and can make an impact if Brandon Meriweather continues to struggle with injury problems. Thomas will also have to compete with Jordan Pugh and Reed Doughty for the starting position. While I would love to have a new strong safety week 1, rookie defensive backs can struggle and I believe that Thomas will get some snaps in certain defensive packages. My hope is that Thomas can develop into a starting strong safety over time, since DeJon Gomes has struggled at the position and since he is questionable to even make the 2013 roster.
