In a rare season of inactivity in free agency for the Redskins, one familiar name in Washington has signed a deal with a new team.
Adam Schefter reported that Jason Campbell, one of the Redskins' two first-round picks in 2005, has signed with the Cleveland Browns, and will presumably take a backup role to the incumbent Brandon Weeden. Details of the deal are not yet known at this time.
Since being traded from the Redskins after three-and-a-half seasons as the starting quarterback, Campbell assumed a starting role with the Oakland Raiders until a broken collarbone prompted them to trade for Carson Palmer in the middle of the 2011 season. Campbell never won his starting gig back and went on to take a backup role with the Chicago Bears, where he appeared in six games and started one.
Over the course of 77 career games in the NFL, Campbell has amassed over 14,000 passing yards and has thrown for 76 touchdowns and 52 interceptions.
