Redskins notes: Aug. 21 |
Receiver Brandon Banks wasn’t all that impressed with his 91-yard punt return for a touchdown. He knows he must do more to make the roster this season. "I’m worried about making a play on offense," he said. "Of course I want to make a play anytime I touch the ball, but right now I’m focusing on offense."

"I’ve got a lot of things to work on," he said when asked how he’s fared through his first two games. "As a rookie, you’ve got everything to work on — fundamentals, you can work on seeing things quicker — I’ve just got a lot to work on. Shanahan: Griffin, Cousins have QB sixth sense - The Insider - The Washington Post
Shanahan said that Griffin and fellow rookie Kirk Cousins have juggled the tricky task of seeing downfield and sensing pressure well in their first two preseason games. "Both guys did a great job of focusing downfield," Shanahan said. "Both of them are natural, coming out of college and not looking at the rush and looking downfield."

Doughty A Reliable Secondary Option
With Brandon Meriweather unlikely to play for the rest of the preseason with a swollen knee, veteran safety Reed Doughty could be in line to get the start at safety vs. the Colts. This is a familiar situation for Doughty, who led the secondary in starts at safety last season (11), despite never leading on the depth chart. He was also second on the team in special teams tackles, trailing only ace Lorenzo Alexander.

Graham Gano is trying to keep his job as the team's kicker but he has zero field goal attempts in two games. But he knows his chance will come.

A QB controversy that never was for Redskins - Washington Times
It's bad enough that sports journalists around the country are shredding the Washington Nationals for the Shutdown Stephen Strasburg project. Most local media, however, seem to agree with the decision, probably due to our proximity and our inherent interest in the team's long-term planning.
