This is an article I've been meaning to post for a couple months now, but with the Giants releasing TE Jake Ballard, who was immediately scooped up by the Tight End heavy NE Patriots, this post certainly carries more weight now. It's funny to see the Giants squirm because as Coughin said, they took a calculated risk waiving Ballard and were 'very disappointed' he got picked up.
Anyway, a friend of mine who has direct contacts inside the NY Giants staff mentioned the Giants have been extremely high on 2012 fourth round draft pick, Tight End, Adrien Robinson. "Who?" Yea, that's what I said. Robinson started only one year at Cincinnati and was projected to go undrafted, but due to his measurables, the Giants scooped him up early.
6'4, 264 lbs, 4.56 40', 39.5" vertical
That's exactly Fred Davis' measurables but with ten more pounds. Ruh oh. Robinson has missed a lot of the NY Giants off-season programs due to CBA rules of draft picks in mid rounds having to finish classes first. Even though GM Jerry Reese actually said Robinson is the "Jason Pierre-Paul of tight ends," the staff is very aware he's a work in progress as both Tom Coughlin and TE Coach Mike Pope mentioned in media sessions. Anyway, he's a player to keep an eye on.
Some YouTube highlights after the jump.
There's nothing particularly spectacular with this footage, but Cincy used him all over the field...WR, H-Back, TE. All the media scouting reports knocked his blocking skills, but they seem adequate.
