Fullback Options for Redskins in the 2012 Draft

With Cooley rehabbing, Mike Sellers gone and Darrel Young the only FB currently on the Redskins roster, look for Mike Shanahan to draft a FB/TE with one of their late round draft picks. A couple guys that stand out to me are Temple TE, Evan Rodriguez, and Wisconsin FB, Bradie Ewing. What catches my eye here is that both of these guys excelled in Special Teams as well:

  • Evan Rodrgiuez - 6'2" - 239 lbs - Although Rodriquez is listed as a tight end on Temple's roster, he can be used all over the field. He was used primarily as an h-back at Temple, but also saw action as tight end, receiver, fullback, and h-back. Imagine the options with Shanahan on this one. His blocking skills are not up to par, but he ran a 4.58 40, which Al Davis would appreciate. [More]
  • Bradie Ewing - 6'0" 239 lbs - Ewing is an interesting one since he rushes, catches passes, and also plays Special Teams. NFL draft scout has Ewing rated as the third best FB despite only putting up 14 bench press reps at the combine. Ewing was the only fullback present at the Senior Bowl, where of course the Shanahans coached this year. [More]

  • Lorenzo Alexander - Let's not cross off the One Man Gang here if these two guys above are off the board. He's played pretty much every position on the field over his career. Why not give him some looks on offense in goal line packages at TE and FB? He could be a decent player here.
