Via the official twitter of your Washington Redskins, cornerback Bryon Westbrook is now an unrestricted free agent.
Checked on status of restricted FA Byron Westbrook. He was not tendered a contract by March 13 so he is now an unrestricted FA. #Redskins— Redskins (@Redskins) March 16, 2012
The Westbrook release comes as somewhat of a surprise, given the Redskins lack of depth at the corner position. But it also comes in the wake of signing Cedric Griffin and the visit of Aaron Ross. (I - UkRedskin - personally am still pulling for Steelers corner William Gay, but that's just me).
The Redskins have also announced that tight end Fred Davis has signed his franchise tender.
#Redskins to announce that TE Fred Davis has signed his one-year franchise tender. He will be with Redskins for 2012 season.— Redskins (@Redskins) March 16, 2012
This news comes as no surprise, as ESPN980's Chris Russell explains after the jump.
Fred told me the night he was suspended officially by the @NFL that he realized he would take a 1 yr deal, prove it, sign long term 4 cash.— Chris Russell (@Russellmania980) March 16, 2012
Good to see that Fred knows that he has to earn his right to a long term contract and redeem himself in the eyes of his teammates.
More news as and when we get it.
