Wednesday Morning Free Agency: Redskins Dine Royally; Visit With Meriweather Scheduled

So there were a few developments on the Redskins front last night, but no deals were signed at the time of writing this. The Eddie Royal saga continues, with speculation yesterday that he had signed for the Redskins running amiss, then rumors were the deal was on hold while other teams showed their interest. But Dan Hellie of NBC reported that the Redskins brass had dinner with Royal last night.

That by no means guarantees the deal will be done, but it's not often Snyder has dinner with a player and doesn't sign him...

Meanwhile, Adam Schefter reported that two-time pro-bowl safety Brandon Meriweather is scheduled to visit with the Redskins.

Safety is certainly a need after we cut Atogwe to make cap room, and it looks ever increasingly more likely that LaRon Landry won't be back.

Redskins players are doing their best to try to get London Fletcher back. Corner Josh Wilson and recently re-signed Adam Carriker both tweeting to him encouraging him to come back. (Tweets and more after the jump)

Clearly the Redskins players want Fletcher back. You must feel like this is one of the Redskins priorities right now.

Quick one-liners:

Tight end John Carlson looks to have gone off the Redskins radar after rumors suggested the Redskins had talked to him. He has visits lined up with the Chiefs, among others.

Cornerback Eric Wright is now off the market, Adam Schefter reporting that he's joined the Buccaneers:

Redskins will have to look elsewhere to secure their secondary.

I'm expecting the market for offensive lineman to be set today. It would appear Carl Nicks is following Vincent Jackson to Tampa Bay, while the Saints look to replace him with Ben Grubbs.

So with that said, I'd expect to hear something about the Redskins and at least one offensive lineman today. The Texans cut right tackle Eric Winston (who has seen plenty of interest) and allowed center Chris Myers and left guard Mike Brisiel hit the open market. With us running the same offense as the Texans and having a history of taking pieces from them (Kyle Shanahan for one...), don't be surprised if we are in the mix for at least one of those guys.

I believe that's just about it for this morning. I'll be tweeting any Redskins related stuff all day on long twitter, feel free to give me a follow (@UkRedskin1). Otherwise, keep checking back here for updates. I'm sure Kevin, Parks and Steve will be covering all bases here today as they did superbly yesterday.
