Robert Griffin III injury: Redskins quarterback inactive vs. Browns

Robert Griffin won't be dressing against Cleveland, leaving the job to Kirk Cousins.

USA TODAY Sports

Robert Griffin III will be inactive against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, according to Adam Schefter.

Griffin, who sprained his knee against the Baltimore Ravens when Haloti Ngata hit him, will miss his first game of the season. The job will now be left to Kirk Cousins with Rex Grossman, his backups in case of an injury.

Cousins appears to be capable, after leading his team back against Baltimore last week in the waning seconds of the fourth quarter and overtime.

The Redskins desperately need the win to keep pace not only in the NFC East but also in the NFC wild-card picture. They come into Sunday's matchup with a 7-6 record and only three games remaining, perhaps needing to record victories in all of the contests.

This will be the third bit of action for Cousins and his first start, after he saw limited time in games against the Atlanta Falcons and Baltimore.
