Reports: Redskins Sign Ben Chappell, QB, Indiana

6'3 - 242lbs

The Redskins have added former Indiana quarterback Ben Chappell to their list of undrafted free agent signings. Chappell is a two year starter for the Hoosiers, who also saw valuable playing time his Sophomore year.  This past year he was the team captain and lead the Big Ten in completions and passing yards. His 2010 stats included: 62.5 completion percentage, 3,295 yards, 24 TDs, 9 INTs, while finishing with a 5-7 record. He was also an All Big Ten Honorable Mention member this past year.

RookieDraft.com evaluated Chappell earlier this year:

Chappell is an extremely accurate quarterback with the sense of timing and offensive understanding necessary to be a very effective pro passer in a west coast system.

He has less than ideal height and size for the position to go along with his very limited mobility.

Chappell doesn’t have the strongest arm but put up impressive numbers in Indiana’s attacking offense because of his ability to distribute the ball so well.

The Bloomington native is a natural born leader and a team captain that knows how to lead receivers out of trouble away from defenders.
