Steve Schilling

Measurables: 6' 4" 308

Projected Draft Position:
High - 3rd
Low - 6th

Combine Results:
40 - 5.18
10 yd split - 1.8
Bench - 30
Broad - 8' 2"
Vert - 25 1/2

Pros:

  • Started 49 career games at both Tackle and Guard
  • Great leader(Team Captain)
  • Shows good ability to get to the second level on run blocks
  • Exhibits good quickness on pulls and reach blocks
  • Plays with a nasty streak
  • Will fit well in zone blocking system

Cons:

  • Not a powerful run blocker
  • Tends to be a waist bender, and often plays too high
  • Can be a tad bit slow out of stance
  • Does not have great foot quickness

Schilling has the ability to be a good fit in a zone blocking scheme. He will need to refine his footwork at the next level, but if he does become more of a technician, he could become an early starter in his NFL career. He proved to teams at the NFL combine that he has the size, strenght and quickness to succeed at the next level.

The Redskins could use an upgrade at guard, but lack mid-round draft picks where decent guards are often found. If Schilling slips into the 5th round, he would be a wise pick for our ZBS, and would have a chance to compete for a starting spot in training camp.
