Update: Landry is on IR and will have surgery on his Achilles.

Recent quotes out of Ashburn from Jim Haslett announced that rookie safety DeJon Gomes will start the final three games in Laron Landry's spot.

"Right now we're going to go with D.J. the rest of the way, so that's something we've decided to do as a staff," Haslett said. "We'll see how that works out. LaRon, to me, just has got to get healthy. When he's healthy, he's a good football player. He just hasn't been healthy in a year and a half."

So, as I see it, it's pretty simple: If Gomes plays well these final three games then there's no need to pay up for Laron Landry, who is a unrestricted free agent after this year. It's a smart, business move by the Redskins, but surely doesn't sit well with Landry. No one likes to have their starting spot taken over. Atogwe will also be seeing a reserve role from here on out:

"I just took it in stride," Atogwe said. "I mean, it's [head coach Mike Shanahan's] decision. I'm not going to argue with him. Whatever he calls, that's what we'll roll with."

The youth movement continues. All eyes on Gomes this week.
