Redskins Draft Profiles: Dwight Jones, WR, North Carolina

While Tebow-mania is running wild when the Broncos play the Jets tonight on NFL Network, #8 Virginia Tech (8-1) will be playing their second straight Thursday night game against North Carolina (6-4) on ESPN at 8 PM. We've profiled several Hokies so far this year, including cornerback Jayron Hosley last week. This week we will focus on the other side of the ball in North Carolina. UNC is laden with 1st round defensive talent with Quinton Couples, Kevin Reddick, and Zach Brown (his band is not draft eligible), but today we'll profile Tar Heel wide receiver, Dwight Jones aka "The Mayor".

Strengths: The first thing that will jump off the page for Redskins fans is Jones' size, he's 6'4 210 lbs. Jones could very well be the red zone threat the Skins have been looking for for quite some time. Jones is a former HS basketball stud who can attack the ball at his highest point, this skill has helped him to reel in eight touchdowns and nearly 1,000 yards already this year. It doesn't hurt either that he has big hands and long arms. Jones is also faster than most wide receivers his size and has excellent separation skills.

Weaknesses: Jones' biggest downside is his weight, but he certainly has a frame to add some bulk. He's good at getting in position to block, but he may struggle in the league if he does not add some bulk. Jones also has a history of knee ailments and had arthroscopic surgery a couple of years ago.

Projected Round: Jones is a mid to late second round prospect on my board right now. Many teams fall in love with WRs and reach more than any other position, in my opinion. Jones has the capabilities to slide either way depending on how the draft plays out. If the Skins trade back or he slips to the third round, then they should be in position to make a great investment on a potential red zone threat.
