Redskins Show Interest in Michigan Guard, Stephen Schilling - Draft Scout Profile

The Guard position is arguably the Redskins biggest need since they legitimately need TWO starters there. Several reports from the Senior Bowl, including this one, stated "Michigan Guard Stephen Schilling getting a lot of interest" from the Redskins. So who is he?

Height: 6'4", Weight: 302 lbs.
Projected Round: 3
Position: 2-year starter at RT, 2009-2010: 2-year starter at LG
Awards: Outland Trophy (watch list), All Big-Ten Honorable mention
40: Ranges between a 5.02 and 5.26.

His first day at Senior Bowl practices was a tough one:

Stephen Schilling drew a tough matchup against Cameron Jordan, but Jordan made the Michigan guard look like a helpless child in their one-on-one battle.

It should be noted that Cameron Jordan is KILLING it. He had an even better second day. Scouts now say Jordan will go between 9-17. I digress. Doug Farrar had this to say on Schilling yesterday:

The guy definitely plays with a nasty streak and shows the technique you'd expect from a school with so much great offensive-line history...A projected third-rounder at this time, Schilling could benefit greatly from the pre-draft process, especially as he shows zone teams his ability to hit the second level decidedly and in a hurry.

The obvious problem with this equation is the Redskins do not have a 3rd round pick. Bruce, go to work!!!
