Redskins Bring in UTEP CB Melvin Stephenson II for Tryout

College: Texas-El Paso
Height / Weight: 5-10 / 190

It's pretty safe to say the CB position could use a little more depth. DeAngelo Hall and Carlos Rogers are decent corners, but the depth drops off from there. Last year was DeAngelo's first unhealthy season in a long time (story of the Redskins). He suffered ligament damage in his hand his 1-year at Oakland but played through it. Carlos has put together back to back 16 game seasons where in his first 3 years he had not. The Redskins of course added Phillip Buchanon, who has had an off and on battle with injuries and will be 30 this year (not to mention he was released by the Lions who were already thin at that position). It is fair to say the Lions were paying him $8.5 million over 2 years. Overall though, Phillip has been suited for games.

Melvin would definitely be a long-shot to make the squad. He was not invited to the combine, but put up decent numbers in his Pro Day. He had a highlight interception for a TD against Texas this year, and that's about it.  The Justin Tryon experiment continues as the former 4th round pick enters his 3rd year. As a cop would say, "There's nothing more to see here....move along."
