ESPN and Redskins Insider are reporting the Redskins have added 34-year old DE, Vonnie Holliday. Vonnie has never had any off-field problems, in fact, it's quite the opposite given his many charitable endeavors.
Via his fanpage:
In his rookie season in Green Bay, he learned a lot through the tutelage of storied defensive lineman Reggie White. "I learned a lot about my position, football and life in general from Reggie." In his first season as a Packer, Holliday was a consensus All-Rookie selection and finished second for AP's Defensive Rookie of the Year.
Although Vonnie only started 3 games last year, he saw a lot of action and played well as the right defensive end. This makes for an interesting scenario since Haynesworth was slotted to be the RDE with Jarmon as his backup. On the left side it's Phillip Daniels with Carriker backing him up. I can't say this really adds pressure to Albert since he already got paid, but it does give me the notion the Redskins are making a contingency plan. At the same time, it could also mean that Jarmon is not physically ready or able to handle the right side as well. As Jason Reid reported, he is light for a DL at 6'5 285, but it's clear the Redskins are not happy with the RDE position. Thoughts?
UPDATE:
Matt Infante, the lead Editor for SB Nations Dolphins website, The Phinsider, had this to say in an email reply:
In Miami's 3-4, Holliday was never a nose tackle. He worked as a defensive end and then kicked inside to defensive tackle when the Dolphins went with four down linemen.
But to me, his greatest asset was in the locker room. He was a great leader. And from what the media said about him, he was as genuinely nice as they come. He was always at his locker after a game - win or lose. He never got short with the media. He answered everything that was asked to him. Many in the South Florida media even said Holliday was the best person they have covered.
Washington got a good player. But they got an even better person. I wish him nothing but the best in Washington. He's a true class act all the way.
