Per the Official Site:
Linebacker Zach Latimer and defensive back Brandon Register, a pair of undrafted rookies, and wide receiver Cedric Bonner were the other Redskins released on Wednesday.
Toler, 6-2 and 185 pounds, played for the Cologne Centurions in NFL Europa this spring. He originally entered the NFL as an undrafted rookie with the Oakland Raiders in May 2006...
Sinclair, 6-2 and 245 pounds, wrapped up his second consecutive season in NFL Europa this spring playing with the Frankfurt Galaxy.
This flux of new players coming and going will continue for a while, as rosters aren't set at 53 until September 1st. First cuts (to 75) are on August 28th. With that in mind, now is as good a time as any to highlight what are, in my opinion and off the top of my head, the key positional battles on the team. For Starters, and in order of how I subjectively think it will work out as of this posting (in order of likelihood of winning the spot)...
Carlos Rogers vs. Fred Smoot for the #2 CB spot
Kedric Golston (if he hasn't won it already) vs. Big Joe Salave'a for DT
Todd Wade vs. Mike Pucillo vs. Will Whitticker for Dockery's vacated guard spot
Rocky McIntosh vs. Lemar Marshall
LaRon Landry vs. Pierson Prioleau vs. Omar Stoutmire for safety opposite Sean Taylor
Antwaan Randle-El vs. Brandon Lloyd for #2 WR
Beyond that we have a few interesting backup battles, notably...
Mark Brunell vs. Todd Collins for backup QB
Casey Bramlet vs. Jordan Palmer vs. Sam Hollenbach for 3rd string QB
Ade Jimoh vs. Jerametrius Butler vs. Byron Westbrook for #5 CB (and this one is anyone's guess)
The Hamburglar vs. Khary Campbell vs. Dallas Sartz for the last two backup LB spots
Reed Doughty vs. Vernon Fox for roster spot at safety
And then some situations I'm not really familiar with, like our backup tight end (is it draft pick Tyler Ecker? Is Master Yoder safe? Eric Edwards?) and our fullback (with Nehemiah on IR, and Derrick Blaylock competing for the last RB spot with Rock Cartwright, do we just move the Rock to the backup FB?) positions. Someone should be reporting on this stuff, because I've heard nary a peep.
Let me know what I missed.
